these are some players who have chosen to withdraw from the Malaysia Open 2008: Lin Dan - unfit shoes during hard training causes blisters in feet. Peter Gade - defending champion has a ill close family member and he chose to stay behind Boonsak Polsana - food poisoning.
Saw in ChinaPress yesterday that Zheng Bo and Guo zheng Dong have withdrawn as well. Any confirmation??
No such information in sina.sports.com.cn. Apart from Lin Dan, all other China players will be going to the Malaysia Open Super Series 2008.
Not only Lin Dan, Xie Zhong Bo, Zheng Bo, Wei Tie Li and Zhang Ya Wen have withdrawn as well. Here is the source (in chinese): http://www.bbeshop.com/news/2008/news_20080114a.htm
How do they determine which players replace the withdrawn ones? Is it by qualification round seedings?
Hmm, if i understand your inquiry.. ..the "indirect" answer is yes. I believe the highest seeded player(s)/pair(s) from the qualifying round(s), will replace those players, seeded in the main draw, who have withdrawn. However, the replacement(s) must be done prior to the final draw. So, it's somewhat dependent on whether the withdrawal request was done prior to or after the draw has been done. Thanks, that would make the most sense. Andrew Debeka (#1) and Andrew Smith (#2) are very lucky then as I didn't see them making it out of qualifying.
Answer is.. ..(cooler, do you think i'm BWF's official rule manager or what??).. Answer is, again, it depends. The new BWF rule only states: BWF will impose a $500 penalty on nations that have players withdrawing AFTER they have confirmed their participation. If the players didn't sign up to play/compete, then those countries can keep their monies in their wallet. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51194
Hmm.. (oops, i was trying to respond to your earlier inquiry, but seems like you've edited it. But to answer whether there will be special re-draw if your prior inquiry were to happen).. ..my wild guess is, if a player/pair, seeded in the main draw, withdraws AFTER the draw has been made, then his/her spot will be left empty as is. Another question then might arise. What will happen to the spot if a qualifier decides to withdraw? Answer is, if i'm not mistaken, the host's nation's/country's player will get a spot to replace the qualifier who've withdrawn. *Please correct any info(s) if they may be incorrect.
All draws have been revised to accommodate withdrawals. As expected the two Andrews (Debeka & Smith) got free passes to the MS main draw thanks to withdrawals. Lucky bas***ds
hahaha, maybe i had over estimated you keke, j/k well, from the sound of it, blister feet, ill family member, food poisoning aren't planned events, so these players likely pulled out last minute (unless the penalty has an exemption clause for act of god or circumstance not in player's control)
