Probably me too, but not during preliminaries.

Only q-finals onwards. Irrespective of MAS performance.

Anybody can help on best places for accommodation and tickets? The Century Park hotel closest to Senayan is sure to be full.

    I propose..

...our three biggest Indonesian supporters in BC to be co-organizers of the get-together:
Hau-ge, indra & taufik-ist!...And proposing our Krisna to be the "main host"..hehe:p :);)

Hmm, my ex-boss's beloved Hotel Mulia is already full, that must be the tournament hotel, then.

Atlet Century Park is still available. I will stay there, easier for food since Plaza Senayan is only walking distance away. Since it is not far, will walk to Istora too.

Anybody anywhere want to share rooms with me? I am planning to be there from 14th onwards. Crossover pre-quarterfinals or Q-finals should start by then.

Really? Hotel Mulia is the tournament hotel? Thats quite surprising, they usually use The Sultan (used to be Hilton) for every international tournament held in Senayan (including the 04 TUC and Indo SS), except during Asian Cup last year...

Hopefully I won't be too busy during the tournament so I'll be able to watch it everyday... :D *nabung, nabung, nabung...*

I don't know for sure if they are using Hotel Mulia, but could be since rooms there are full in May. Makes sense since it is one of the closer hotels within Senayan. Yup, everything that is within my walking distance is close .... :D

azabaz_ipoh, mebbe I will handle the duties to Hau-ge, he has a blackberry too, and it is his country that is hosting the event. I'm a tourist, must act like one. :D

From BWF website announcement (TUC section), the official hotel for upcoming TUC/08 is Hotel Sultan (previously Hilton Hotel). Yeah, the alternative shopping centre near Istora are the high class PS (Plaza Senayan) and SenSi (Senayan City). Hmm, looks like this area is so familiar to u...

Of course, didn't I tell u that I've been here many times. Mainly for work  nowadays.

Always tried to stay within walking distance of my objective. Not too keen on taking drives unless no choice, the drivers in Jakarta are "so exceptional". It just so happened that my previous company has a subsidiary with HQ in Panin Bank Building, so I stayed in Century Park on most occasions.

Azabaz, Hau-ge's illness has given him "divine inspiration" in MO. Now instead of running away, he only needs shake his head and look up ...... or maybe he was just wary of Ants and Fastdrop sitting beside ..... :D

so you used to go there for pleasure before huh? :)

yeah, taking a drive not always a good choice. even in malaysia. taxi drivers tend to charge you exorbitant fees if they know you are not a local or even a KLites.

i hope the divine inspiration helps him. however, it does not help with the running commentary if he decided to take your place. hehehehe. maybe he thought he better stay or he would have missed winning points like he did before. :)

Looking at the duration (11-18 May), it seems to be more compressed than the 2004 and 2006 timetable.

I suppose this is close to the planned event timetable:-

11-13 May - Preliminary group phase (3 teams per group, 4 groups per Cup)
    14 May - Crossover pre-q-finals (2nd and 3rd placed teams only)
15 May - Q-finals (crossover winners vs group champs)
16 May - Semifinals, also known as my birthday ;)
17 May - Uber Cup Final
18 May - Thomas Cup Final

Or they could have 17 May as rest day, 18th May afternoon session Uber Cup Final and evening session Thomas Cup Final.

In which case, my target is to arrive by 15 morning. 14 is possible but might be objectionable by my boss. Esp since I plan to be back at the office on Tuesday 20th.

Okay abedeng, no wonder that you really understand about Jakarta including the drivers attitude and don't forget traffic jam. Host Broadcaster is promoting TUC now with countdown display on top-left corner of TV screen (TransTV and Trans7). Hopefully, the TUC/08 will be success since many INA peoples generally don't know/care about this sport event!

    Very tempting offer. :)
From May15 -19, right? 19 is Vesak Day, public holiday here, good! Returning on May 20, but what time?
See whether I could arrange for leave and air tickets.
Appreciate prompt reply and tentative arrangements, please. :)
