The team began by competing in the team championships, going down 4-1 against New Zealand in the final after easily beating the hosts in the opening round. Then the individual event began with many players looking to bolster their Olmpic qualification hopes with a good result. Australia had three of the four semi finalists in the mens singles, with Stuart Gomez, Jeff Tho and Benjamin Walklate all performing well. However it was Kiwi John Moody who took out the event, beating Gomez 12-21 16-21 in the final. In the women's singles Leisha Cooper was the only Aussie to make it to the semis, before she was knocked out by eventual winner, Kiwi Michelle Chan. It was better news for Australia in the men's doubles, with top seeds Glenn Warfe and Ross Smith defeating New Zealand's Nathan Hannam and Henry Tam 21-13 21-18 in the final. Australia also had semi finalists in the women's doubles and mixed doubles events, but none could progress further.
