Today. Tony made too many mistakes in front... not like his best in the past.

on a serious note, i dont disagreed. I was surprised to see tony's speed and power had dropped somewhat, especially after the 2nd set. Candra Wijaya seem to be as good as i have seen him. However, this poll is about who is the best MD frontman during his best years, still Tony G. At his age, reaching the 08 china open SF by beating Fu/Cai and Clark/robertson, and pushing boe/morgensen into a tight rubber match is no pushover effort.

what is he now, 33? that pretty spectacular, if you ask me.
there may be players that are older, but, his skills probably still own.

^^It'll always be there..^^
..skills/techniques will always be there for all the top players. It's the speed, quickness, reflex, stamina and to an extent power which will vary or even reduce as they age...which of course, they'll make it up by relying on court smart, experience

i voted for hendra setiawan
hendra setiawan has a greater reach when it comes to front court, cause he uses his height advantage, and he throws the best net kills and backhand push in mens doubles, like the winning shot at Beijing olympics, that was really a clean shot from hendra

an update to my previous post,
please watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC_WinS1Rds
and listen to what the commentator said to hedra setiawan,
(0:20 - 0:32 seconds of the game) = "What a badminton player, he really is absolutely LETHAL when he gets on the FRONT COURT, he reads the game so well"
(4:36 - 5:00) = "there's setiawan on its best, intercepting at the net, always seems to be at the right place and at the right time, and he looks so casual half the time he doesnt have his racket up ready, but because his reading the game so well, doesn't seem to matter to him"
(5:08 - 5:13)= OH! there he is again, absolutely extraordinaryLast edited by migzz10; 12-05-2008 at 07:08 PM.

Yeah, IMO, Hendra Setiawan and Lee Yong Dae are the two best frontmen in current MD world. They are all tall guys, around 180cm, and their playing styles look very similar. While Hendra is better even at strong smashes in the back, Yong Dae shows much brilliance at reading his opponents' next move to change from defense to offense.
