Without doubt for me Hendrawan is the best. Not sure if trick is the right word, but for consistent decepetion and skill he is.

Trikush haryanto also had some good deceptive strokes.

Yes.. Hendrawan is among the best trickster. Trikush as well.. very deceptive with their wrist action. Panvisvas Tesana from Thailand is also a good trickster.

Lin Dan isn't known as one of the more deceptive players, but I think he's up there. This video shows it:

    Default So..

..with the overwhelming (BC) approval of Hendrawan as the all-time badminton "trick master", is there any other player who could out-trick Hendrawan??..

I'd say Gade at his _very_ best could out-trick hendrawan, beside him I don't think anyones even close.

watch WC 2001 ... hendrawan who was not fit could beat the best Gade in the final ... remember, 2001 was Gade's glory year.. if i'm not mistaken, in 2001 gade was #1 of WR .

Just What I would say. The first game was embarassing for PG. He was caught out on Hendrawans' flick serve 3 or four times.

In the second Hendrawan was tired out but just managed to close it.

Off-topic: James, I see that your location has changed. No longer in the UK?

And yes my vote goes to Zhao Jianhau as the best trick master for his deceptive strokes, especially his overhead slices.

I'd vote for Zhao. He not only mastered tricks but also every other techniques as well. He was praised by the Chinese as the legend.

hendrawan for sure.....the WC2001 or OG2000 semi also good.
....especially his net tricks....his racket seems flick to the left but eventually the shuttle went to right hand side of the net....this is freaking maddness.....i am 27 now...i still got one year to master this trick like hendrawan when he was 28 in OG 2000...haha...gotta train my wrist very hard.

XXZ...also very trick...dont u guys reckon too ? after being tricked by hendrawan so many times , matches by matches....this guy had learnt few tricks from him.....XXZ is very deceptive and tricky on the net.....he is also like those wrist-based players like Hendrawan or ZJH ,which rarely found these days......plus i miss XXZ of his entertaining style & attitude....a great player who influenced lots of modern chinese players.

Ong Poh Lim for his tricky crocodile service! Most modern players use a version of this backhand service now.

Hendrawan , ive heard so much about him sounds amazing , but never really seen a lot of matches of him playing.

I think peter gades deception , out of all the players at the moment is the best , amazing deception. He has such power and can easily just flick his wrist at the last second. AMAZING!
