hi, im an intermediate/advanced player (BC?) player that plays singles and doubles... however ive still havent found out how to beat those people that tower over you.... not that im not tall myself (6'0") but there are these ppl that are like 6'4'' or taller.... can anyone help? thanks
As said before, tall people normally have more trouble defending body attacks, and drives. Just don't try to play over them all the time.
Since yourself is also tall, you should be fairly eaisly control your stroke to be either flat or downward. Therefore, you take away your taller opponent's chance to smash. If you having trouble to receive his smash, try to return with a drop but not a lob.
but he continuously just keeps lifting (like the backcourt) even if i drive or smash and that gets REALLY !@#$ing annoying -_-
a drop followed by a drive or flick to the back court is also a good play sometimes, just keep it low
Try flat offensive clears, to push him around. Big legs mean that they're harder to move, but cover more ground per step. Try to mix them up.
give him some trickshots and let him grounded on the floor, starring at the shuttle dropping to his floor.
i remember a Xiao Jie instructional vid advising hitting more repeated corners against taller opponents
I agree with Divingbirdie that's a good tip. (being roughly 6'5'' I'm talking out of experience, I guess ). I'm personally pretty agile for my length, though there're some shots That always give me a hard time: -repeated corners are good -fast clears to my backhand -short drops (have to step, can't reach for it) -body smashes (sometimes) What I don't recommend: -fast lobs. Tall players can score a lot of points by intercepting lobs, I've played some singles were I barely had to move behind the doubles-back-service-line, because my opponents kept everything "low" -fast clears, same as category one. -fast/deep dropsshots, with a small step a lot of tall people can reach for them and get to it higher than usual. So the best tip is: be careful where you play in the back of their court...And "ballooning" a shuttle to the baseline isn't always a bad idea, we can't intercept them
