If you can't control the power of your high serve, then something is wrong with your technique.
You should always be able to reduce power. Perhaps you are using a rigid hitting technique where you take a great uncontrolled swipe at the shuttle. Try to relax!

yeah, i don't really see how this can be a problem.
i don't understand the concept of not being able to control your power enough such that the shuttle doesn't land within the court.
maybe it's something i really have to see to fully comprehend.

I also agree with Dreamzz, since I also do not understand how can one cannot control their power on the serve.
Control and technique would be the key.

Yesterday, I swung the racquet slowly in front of a mirror to see if there was something wrong with my technique. I realised, that for such a simple shot, I was using my whole body. I was transfering too much weight from behind, to the front, like a golf-swing, or maybe perhaps a softball-throw. I tried serving without doing any weight-transfers, just standing still and swinging the racquet without much aid from my legs, but just with the swing of the wrist, arm, and my torso, as my friend had instructed me to do. The serves were going in finally. But I was still conserned that I might high-serve out again, so mostly used short backhand serves for my games yesterday.

Well for a normal high seve, it should be pretty effortless with the correct technique.

Try to use less body movement.
There should be a subtle weight transfer from the back foot to the forward foot; but that's all. If you make large, unnecessary body movements, then you are "locked" into that rhythm of movement, and it's harder to adjust direction and power.

yeah, when i serve, i hardly move my body at all. that way, it's also good for deception and to ensure that my serves more consistently land where i want them to.
