Leanne is one of five short listed finalists for the award selected by a panel of 31 judges. In 2007 Leanne was a member of Australia's Whyte Trophy and World Junior Championship teams and is an Australian champion at under 17 and under 19 levels. The winners of the Australian Sports Awards are announced on February 20. He has become the youngest winner of the Dawn Fraser Award in recognition of his international achievements. Cyclist Cadel Evans was named male athlete of the year after he became the first Australian to finish on the podium at the Tour de France. Swimmer Libby Lenton was named the country's top female athlete. Lenton won five gold medals at the swimming world championships.
