Pretty strong field even in the qualifiers

    1st qualifying spot
    Top seed: Lu Yi
    Other seed: Nguyen Tien Minh
Other notables: Hsieh Yu Hsin, Tan Chun Seang (in Nguyen's half)
Prediction: Nguyen to beat Lu. But he has tough half, and since all matches are played within the day, may not have enough to beat Lu who has relatively much easier draw.

    2nd qualifying spot
    Top seed: John Moody
    Other seed: Richard Vaughan
Other notables: Poompat, Arvind Bhat, Gong Weijie (in Moody's half) Kenichi Tago, Roman Spitko (in Vaughan's half)
    Prediction: Tago to beat Poompat

    3rd qualifying spot
    Top seed: Dicky Palyama
    Other seed: Bobby Milroy
Other notables: Scott Evans, Kasper Oedum (in Palyama's half) Tommy Sugiarto (in Milroy's half)
Prediction: Sugiarto to beat Palyama (or Evans)

    4th qualifying spot
    Top seed: Andrew Dabeka
    Other seed: Eric Pang
Other notables: Shon Seung Mo, Chetan Anand (in Pang's half)
    Prediction: Shon

    1st qualifying spot
    Seed: Elizabeth Cann
    Other notables: None
Prediction: Cann. Apparently kind draw for Cann who even has a bye.

    2nd qualifying spot
    Seed: Salakjit Ponsana
Other notables: Anu Nieminen (in Ponsana's half) Adriyanti Firdasari, Soratja (in other half)
Prediction: Firdasari to beat Ponsana, but tough prediction to make

    3rd qualifying spot
    Seed: Julia Wong
Other notables: Pai Min Jie, Xing Aiying (in other half from seed)
Prediction: Xing to beat Wong, considering Uber Cup form

    4th qualifying spot
    Seed: Wang Yihan
Other notables: Susan Hughes (in Wang's half) Pia Zebadiah (in other half)
    Prediction: Wang to beat Pia

    Men's Singles Qualification R1:
Tommy Sugiarto vs Bobby Milroy [3] -- Bobby, and possibly Peter Mikkelsen and Dicky Palyama will be the opponents to face in the road to the main draw.

    Women's Singles Qualification R1:
Adriyanti Firdasari vs Soratja Chansrisukot -- a tricky match for Firda...she could eventually face 2 Thai players if she were to go all the way to the Final Round. She should face Charmaine Reid next.

Pia Bernadet Zebadiah vs Malgorzata Kurdelska -- should be a breeze for Pia, but, Wang Yihan will be the greatest hurdle if she want to qualify. Shruti Kurian should await her next.

    Men's Doubles Qualification R1:
Anthony Clark/David Lindley vs Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan -- tough matches await Bona/Ahsan in their first AE. They should lose here.

    Women's Doubles Qualification R1:
Lita Nurlita/Nitya Krishinda vs Mooi Hing Yau/Ooi Yu Hang -- Lita/Nitya should progress to the main draw.

Pretty tame lineup in the MD.

    1st qualifying spot
Don't know. The British pairs (Adcock/Middleton and Lewis/Roebuck) have pretty good chances, I guess. But Spitko/Fuchs is out to spoil their party.

    2nd qualifying spot
Kawaguchi/Kawamae stands above the others in this section.

    3rd qualifying spot
    (Xu Chen/Zheng Bo v Blair/Eidestedt) v (Clark/Lindley v Ahsan/Septano). Your guess as good as mine. I think Clark/Lindley has the edge.

    4th qualifying spot
Cho Gun Woo/Han Sang Hoon faces some Danish opposition, but should advance. I guess.

    Even tamer affair in WD

    1st qualifying spot
I like Chau Hoi Wah/Koon Wai Chee's chances against seeded McKee/Reid.

    2nd qualifying spot
Goh Liu Ying/Ng Hui Lin should take this oppurtunity given the apparently weak opposition.

    3rd qualifying spot
    Meulendijks/Yao Jie faces British opposition.

    4th qualifying spot
Maheswari/Nurlita if they can overcome Mooi/Ooi.

    XD
A bit better in the XD

    1st qualifying spot
    Seed: Cooper/Flavell
Other notables: Fuchs/Mette (in seed's half) Langridge/Nicholas, Tsai/Cheng (in other half)
Prediction: Beats me. Langridge/Nicholas if I have to venture a guess.

    2nd qualifying spot
    Seed: Tan/Woon
Other notables: Bowman/Bok (in seed's half), Roebuck/Wallwork (other half)
Prediction: Should be Tan/Woon for the taking but the Brits are XD experts. Must tread with caution.

    3rd qualifying spot
    Seed: Middleton/Smith
Other notables: Razif/Chong, Logosz/Munt (in other half from seed)
Prediction: Polish-English pairing looks strong here.

    4th qualifying spot
    Seed: Stoyanov/Eymard
Other notables: Wiratama/Chau, Cho Gun Woo/Ha Jung Eun (seed's half), Lim Kim Wah/Ng Hui Lin, Ohtsuka/Suetsuna (other half)
Prediction: hmmm ... Lim/Ng cannot be taken lightly, but I like the experience that Ohtsuka/Suetsuna has

Yes, both Lu Yi (for Ronald Susilo) and Andrew Debaka (for PG) have been promoted to the main draw - confirmed by hauge among others.

Xing vs Julia would be a great match, if it happens. Last time around, Julia won in 3.

    MS Qualification
Q1: With Lu Yi gone, that pretty much opens the path for Nguyen Tien Minh
Q2: I wonder if Gong Weijie can continue his miracle run. Moody is a pretty tough nut to crack and Tago should contend. I think Gong can take the Q2 spot
Q3: The youth of Tommy Sugiarto v the experience of Dicky Palyama. If Tommy continues to show mental strength, he'll secure the Q3 spot
Q4: Shon Seung Mo all the way

    WS Qualification
    Q1: Cakewalk for Elizabeth Cann
Q2: The 2 Thais and Firda should duke it out. An easier passage (including a bye) might tip it Salakjit Ponsana's way
Q3: A beauty of an encounter awaits in Julia Wong v Xing Aiying. Xing has to dispose of Pai Min Jie first while Julia has the much easier route. Like in Germany, Julia to win again
Q4: It would be a monumental upset if Wang Yihan did not clean house here

    MD Qualification
Q1: Adcock/Middleton, playing on home soil should outlast the others
Q2: I'll flip a coin and say Adcock/George again because of home field advantage
Q3: Xu/Zheng should make it through
Q4: Han/Cho is the only Asian pair in the Q4 bracket and I think they'll have just enough to hold off the Danes

    WD Qualification
Q1: The HK pair of Chau/Koon will have the edge
Q2: Pedersen/Schjoett-Kristensen will sweep past the weak MAS pair
Q3: Meulendijks/Yao Jie should win the Q3 spot
Q4: I think Mooi/Ooi could come out after some tough matches

    XD Qualification
Q1: The TPE pair Tsai/Cheng to push aside the ENG challenge
Q2: Tan/Woon will face stiff challenges from the ENG pairs. They should be able to hold on
Q3: Logosz/Munt are underrated and will win this spot
Q4: A tough quarter with the JPN tandem of Ohtsuka/Suetsuna squeaking through

List to qualifiers promoted to main draw:
    MS
    Lu Yi (v Kendrick Lee)
    Andrew Dabeka (v Taufik Hidayat)
    Effect to QUAL:
Nguyen is given an easier task to qualify as Q1
No difference to Q4 as Shon is expected to win either way.

    WS
    none

    MD
    Fuchs/Spitko (v Hwang Ji Man/Lee Jae Jin)
    Effect to QUAL:
The Brits (3 pairs out of 4) will have an even easier time to grab Q1.

    WD
    McKee/Reid (v Ha Jung Eun/Kim Min Jung)
    Effect to QUAL:
Easier to Chau/Koon to grab Q1.

    XD
    Stoyanov/Eymard (v Kindervater/Piotrowski)
    Cooper/Flavell (v Q4)
    Effect to QUAL:
Not much effect to Q1 as Stonayov/Eymard are not expected to grab Q1.
Hwang Ji Man/Kim Min Jung got promoted from Reserve to make Q4 much more interesting. They are now my favourites to take Q4. Q4 also comes with the prize of facing Cooper/Flavell in R32 of main draw.

Either 7 or 8, depending on whether daylight saving is in effect.

Another good thing to remember is this. You know Malaysia is GMT+8. Well, GMT means Greenwich Meridian Time, which is in England. Therefore, England is GMT+0 (if no daylight saving).
