Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong have lost again!

Their most recent loss was to an unfancied Korean duo.
And now, at the All England Open 2008, it's a repeat act.
A Japanese freshman team has bundled them out in straight sets
Shintaro Ikeda & Shuichi Sakamoto romped home 21-18, 21-19

Ahead of the Beijing Olympics, is the Malaysian pair going downhill?

You cant say there going downhill, it was a close match however they should have won, seeing as they hold the title. But they have lost to this pair before haven't they?

in theory, and in some probability. but real life never works like theory.

maybe they are just having a bad day.

That is true they would have the knowledge however they would also be nervous about playing them again. Last year they played Cai and Fu in the final of the All England and had so much confidence because they had beaten them before.

    I don't think they're going downhill.
More a case of them being overrated.

True they won some big tourneys last year and I hope they bounce back but I think it was a case of too much success too early for a couple of young players who played way above their heads.

Now they're just coming down to earth...more like crashing down. >.<. Still I expected better than a straight set defeat in the opening round to a 2nd team JPN pair. :p

Last year was a moment of KKK/TBH's stand out career. So sweet to think back!

No one can be the forever winner!

well MK/HS just lost too to JPN pair. Lets hope its because JPN MDs have gotten alot better under PJB and everyone else have been underestimating them.

I think its too late to switch combinations with OG around the corner. Hope they learn from these disapointments.

Confidence can be so fleeting and fragile esp with young players.. A good showing at a major event can be good enough to carry a team thru the next several events. And a bad one can linger for that much too. They really need a good showing before the OG to have a chance.

I suppose there is something that the JPN, KOREAN AND CHINESE have and our players DON'T!

I agree they were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy overrated last year, basically everyone jumped on their bandwagon after they won All Englands last year. Everyone was saying how awesome they were yada yada yada... Looks like they've fallen into a massive hole with no ladder or roper in sight.

"EVERYONE" might not be a suitable word.
Even their coach did mentioned they still need long journey to be on top.
And look at how the WC07 being embarassed by the 3rd rank Japanese pair in the first round of AE08 , it meants basically no pair will be winning all the time. This defeat will actually served them good, now they are no longer a world beaters. Every pair can have a laugh at them, and they will start as underdogs from now on till the Olympics.

so, for absolute consistency, we still have to turn to CY/FHF.

hmm yea, cy/fhf are a consistently solid pair, and I get the feeling they will be for a while longer.

looking at kkk/tbh's tournament record and their meteoric storm to the number one ranked pair just before last years danish, its no surprise there going downhill; thats the only place you can go from the top of the hill, (unless your fhf, you could try jumping to see if you can find another peak somewhere:D) I reckon they'll still be one of the top pairs for a few years to come.

They are still young. There are still many more AEs in the future. Maybe the weather or the food in England wasnt right for them. The court was a little too slippery. The lightings werent really right. They were jet-lagged. The new all blonde hairdo just wasnt right ... colour wise, I mean. Should be golden blonde next time round. They need to wear more gold rings, chains, bracelets, jade pendants etc etc.

Let them win the Phillippines Open and they will be back again.

    Malaysia Boleh! :D
