Grommets

Is it strung or not? The strings would always keep the grommets in, but if the racquet isnt' strung they may fall out. Just put them back in.

 

Falling off? Sounds like they are broken. If you have pictures, that would provide us with a more clearer picture.

If there is no strings and falling off, then yeah, somewhat normal since it's like a snug fit.

 

It is not true that fake or copycat racquets' grommets usually break. Grommets should last a very long time. If you find that the grommets are split or look torn, it is usually the stringer who has damaged the grommets with an awl. I have racquets that go back more than 20 years and the grommets are fine.

 

my friend in HS would always break his grommets on his NS9k because he would mishit a lot. And then he didn't replace them, and he breaks his strings fairly regularly. Like once every time we play. I've been using my at500 for a year, and none of the grommets are broken nor have fallen off. So it means that grommets dont usually break because you dont usually hit the birdie with them, but if they do, replace them.

 

Grommets do not break from mishits. Only a sharp, pointed awl or a knife edge will damage them. It is 99.9% the use of the awl by stringers that is responsible.

 

Yes, because the functions of grommets are (1) to prevent the strings from being bruised by the grommet holes, and (2) to add weight, about 1.8g to 2.5g, to the frame.
Contrary to popular belief grommets cannot dampen vibrations. I routinely cannabalize grommets of different weight, quality and sizes, from broken racquets for some of my DIY unpainted racquets and they work fine, provided the total weight of all the mix-and match cannibalized grommets is within my predetermined racquet specs.
