I found my mom's old badminton racket from high school from 20 years ago and was wondering if it's worth still using. It's a Yonex Carbonex 8. I've heard of the Carbonex series, but this one is kinda outdated. Worth using this one for high school? Or should I just buy my own racket? Thanks to whoever helps!

I would say this racket could be used for training and kept as a collection. It would be better for you to go and buy your own racket. (ie. Buy Arc Saber 10!!!, j/k, something decent).

My family relatives do have a Cab 8 themself just sitting in storage.

I have that, and it's still being produced now.. so I guess it's not that bad.
Honestly, it's like a whip. Quite hard to use because of the small sweetspot, but it's really powerful. I used that racquet when I just started playing badminton, and I still use it sometimes for fun.

It is still a good racquet for high school. Since it is from 20 yr ago, I will say, restring it at about 16X18 lb. May be next year you will be ready for a new one. It was one of the higher end racquet at that time.

A CAB8 is also a 'real oldschool' racquet
I've seen a boy using a newly restrung wooden racquet before.. I asked him what tension he had strung it to, but he didn't know.. so I felt the strings, and it felt like.. 16-17 lbs or so.:eek:

Carbonex 8, aluminium head, separate T and carbon shaft, I remember playing with one in the past, not a patch on a modern racquet performance wise but durable and a lot better than the full steel racquets that tend to be used in school gyms.

the cab 8 is a cult classic racquet, especially the DX.
i've seen some of my friends string it up to around 22-24lbs before without any problems.

Compare to the lousy rackets most PE classes provided to students, I will say cab8 is not a bad choice, especially if you have the strength and if budget is a concern. ;)

yeah, an amazing racquet for its time, there were never any worries about durability back then, these things were almost invincible.

i used to have 2 of those, suffered many tremendous clashes during play. the rackets gave up on me only when my nephews took them for sword sparring.
