Who is Hwang Hye-youn? ...and what is she doing beating Xie Xingfang? Well, she's been waiting a long time for a big win like this. Here's hoping she can finish the Thailand Open strong. As far as I know her biggest victory prior to this was beating some top Japanese players at the Japan Open last year. Here are some other photos of her: 1599 1597 1512 1481 1441 1267 1253 1252 1229 1201 557 556 555 554 553
Correction. It was at the Korean Open last year that she beat Japan's Yonekura Kanako, then world #12. That was the last time she made the quarter-finals of an international event.
keke, so cute and pretty. I was commenting about her looks during her match with Zhu Lin and my wife got so jeolous.
She is one hell of a fighter. The badminton world is going to see more of her and break the monotony of all chinese girls final matches.
That'ss whhaat i was going to saay ahahhaha When i first saw her, that was my first reaction ! she really looks like Gong Ruina =p
More photos: 1240, 12, 13, Some articles about her (in Korean, of course) with photos. http://www.badmintontimes.com/article/articleRead.jsp?menunum=2&no=1365 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101860 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101548 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101806 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101884 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101775 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101837 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/..%5C../article/article_view.asp?anum=101680 http://www.ebadminton.co.kr/article/article_view.asp?anum=101177
Well, I really missed the chance of seeing her play yesterday in the final. I turned on my TV a little late and just saw her shot going out of the baseline with an anxious Zhu Lin looking on. But it seemed she played very well after losing the first game and forced a rubber by winning the second. The entire match lasted 1hr 8m with Zhu Lin winning 21-12, 18-21, 21-15, again gone past the hour for the NSS! Indeed, she will be another recent challenger to the Chinese, apart from Judith of the Netherlands, after beating one ex-China player Yao Jie 21-14, 20-12, retired, in 42 min in the SF and XXF 10-21, 21-14, 21-14 (1hr 1m) in the QF.
One more. This is a rather bizarre article talking about a make-up specialist visiting their training centre and giving Ha Tae-kwon, Hwang Hye-youn and Jeon Weol-shik makeovers. It's listed as "hot news", too.
Well, it's unfortunate that here there was no coverage of this event where Korea won 3 gold and 2 silver medals. We'll get a bit of coverage next month for the Korea Open, of course, but I'll be watching it all in person. Yes, the women's singles event, with its non-decisive smashes and thus much longer rallies, may well have the longest matches under the new system. They should have dropped the point total. The Chinese team has players to burn but the other countries have at most 1 or 2 contenders each and the chances of injury seem disproportionately high in women's singles.
Who is her coach? Ra Kyung Min? I think they are getting better after Ra became their coach. She's still one of the coach rite?
I am pretty sure that Ra Kyung-min concentrates on coaching doubles. As far as I know, Kim Hak-kyoon is the singles coach for the national team. As for her coach at Samsung Electromechanics, I'm not sure about that one. Gil Young-ah, the '96 Olympic XD gold medalist, is the trainer at Samsung but the women's coach is Gwun Seung-taek.

Sorry about that huge one. I was late editing it out. It really takes over your browser page. Here are a few more of that size but reduced here to links: WOMEN'Steam, 3798, 5381, 836, and 829.
