Default Comments made in the Year 1955!

...most, if not all, of them sound so prophetic...

Comments Made in the Year 1955!
    That's only 53 years ago

'I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00.'

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a used one.'

'If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous.'

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?'

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.'

'When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.'

'Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls.'

'I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL of DAMN in it.'

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas .'

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.'

'I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.'

'It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.'

'It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.'

'Marriage doesn't mean a thing any more, those Hollywood stars seem to be getting divorced at the drop of a hat.'

'I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.'

'Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to congress.'

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.'

'There is no sense going to Lincoln or Omaha anymore for a weekend, it costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel.'

'No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $35.00 a day in the hospital it's too rich for my blood.'

'If they think I'll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.'

    Wink Transparent Spam

Take a look at this address copied from a spammer-created thread that I deleted a minute ago.

    (name removed) COMPANY,UK
    (Address removed),
    Prenton Merseyside.
    ZIP CODE:CH43 0TJ.
    CONUTRY:ENLAND.
    TEL:44 704 (removed).
    FAX:44 704 (removed).

Forget the 'conutry' and the 'enland'... the phone number is a dead giveaway.

It's quite well-known that the 44-704 prefix is a Nigerian call re-routing operation. (These are also the generous Nigerians waiting to fill your bank accounts with either millions of dollars or hundreds of gold ingots )

What amazes me is that people still fall for such 'transparent' scams that promise goodies like a 'new' iPhone or an iPod for 30 dollars

What amazes me even more is that the British Government allows this kind of misuse of its telephone system

    --------------------------
    Here's some useful info:

Scam phone numbers in the United Kingdom (+44):

Most "419" scams (click here is you don't know what a 419 scam is) using +44 70xx numbers involve emails that are sent from Nigeria and other West African countries, not from the UK! If you see a +44 70xx number in a 419 scam email it usually means you're dealing with criminals based in Nigeria.

UK phone numbers starting with '70' are "Personal numbering" in the "Find me anywhere" range. Charges for calls to these numbers are not distance-dependent. They can cost as much as UKL 0.50 (USD 0.90) per minute to call and can forward the call to virtually any phone number in the world. Forwarding numbers can be set up for free and completely anonymously via websites such as uknumbers.com.

In most cases when you call one of these numbers the phone that starts ringing will actually be a mobile phone somewhere in Nigeria, as the UK number has been programmed to auto-forward calls to another number. These +44 70xx numbers are used as a redirector service to obscure the fact that the person taking the call is not actually based in Europe. The UK number is used to lend credibility to the scam.

    Wink Badminton Expo - Indonesia

At this year's Broadcast & Multimedia Exhibition in Jakarta, Sony's marketing people laid out a badminton court, bathed in television lights. The idea was to show off the quality of Sony's latest studio cameras.

The idea isn't new. At shows in Brazil and Portugal, a mini football setup (with a goal area and a goalkeeper) is common... and, at other shows, a sitcom set (with pretty models) is the norm.

As this show was in Indonesia, Sony's marketing guys rightly chose badminton.

    However, there were two problems.
One - someone forgot to arrange for the studio cameras.
Two - fat men in suits who live on TV ratings don't play any sport, much less badminton.

Finally, Sony hired two guys to play all day, for four days.
Sadly, they seemed to be the worst available... backyard players

In any case, neither the court nor the net conforms to regulations.
But, yes, it looked quite attractive (until they started to play).

    Default ^^You could've..^^

..jumped in there and performed an exhibition....
Btw, yeah, the ceiling does look short; i'd guess it's only about 25-30 feet high (7.5 to 9 meters)??..
And the most crucial of them all, they forgot to ask the real 'Sony' Dwi Kuncoro to come and play there.

Of course, I did hit some ... but not when any cameras were around!
But it's no fun when the court is too short to accommodate a clear

By the way, the ceiling is well over 30 feet high... it's just that the pictures don't show it to be so.
