    Hey all, just wanted to let u know that the MIB (Manchester International Badminton) Club is hosting its own badminton tournament on the 5th and 6th of April 2008. We will be hosting all events ie Men's doubles and Singles, Women's doubles and singles and lastly Mixed doubles.

    It will be held over a 2 day period, the qualifying round robin system - quarter-finals on Saturday

    The Semi-Finals and Finals on Sunday.

    Date: 5th , 6th April 2008
    Tournament Time: 10am - 4pm
    (Registration Time: 9.30- 9.45am)
    All registrations after the scheduled time will not be entertained
    Venue: Sudgen Sport Centre, Manchester
    Entries Close: 1st April 2008
    Prizes: Gold, Silver and Bronze medals plus cash prizes

    Men’s Singles £40 £20
    Men’s Doubles £50 £25
    Women’s Singles £30 £15
    Women’s Doubles £40 £20
    Mix Doubles £40 £20

    Events:

    (1) Men’s singles : 16 entries
    (2) Women singles : 12 entries
    (3) Men’s Doubles : 24 entries
    (4) Women’s Doubles: 12 entries
    (5) Mix doubles : 16 entries
    • First come first serve basis


    Rules:

    • Basic badminton rules apply.
    • New rally points scoring system used. Note: swap sides after 5 minutes or first to 11 points (group stages and quarter finals only)
    • Group stages (round robin) and quarter finals – 10 minutes. (First pair to reach 21 points or has the highest score after 10 minutes is the winner)
    • Semi-finals and Final: Best of 3 games of 21 points.
    • Warm up 2 Minutes and shuttlecock toss to decide server
    • 7 pounds per PERSON for women’s single and women’s doubles
    • 8 pounds per PERSON for men’s single, men’s doubles and mix doubles
    • Feather shuttles will be provided

    Men’s singles and mix double:
    • There are 4 groups of 4
    • The best of two in each group will proceed to quarterfinals automatically

    Men’s doubles:
    • There are 4 groups of 6 pairs
    • The best of two in each group will proceed to quarterfinals automatically

    Women’s singles and Women’s Doubles:
    • There are 3 groups of 4
    • The best of two in each group will proceed to quarterfinals automatically
    • Remaining entries for quarterfinals will be selected based on points collected during the group stages.

    Are there any plans to repeat the tournament this year?

    I wanted to play last years but it was just too short notice to commit to a full Saturday. I managed to get down for an hour to support a couple of friends who were playing and it looked a good tourney.
