Howdy! want to drop by here to say hi to everyone. I am originally from Malaysia, but currently reside in Houston, Texas. This is a great forum for badminton hobbyists and professionals around the world. Thanks for providing the current update on all badminton tournaments and keep up the good work and debate going!! Looking forward to know more of you here. Very best, Yen
Welcome to BadmintonForum, Yen. Do you play at all in Houston? What's the scene like over there? On another note, how's the high-tech sector industry in Houston? -dave
Welcome.. ..to BCBF and howdy, pardner...i mean yen_saw(Yen)!...Yes, i've seen your posts before..So, have you adapted those Texas' slang and accent??..And have you met our other BC member malayali, who is also from the Houston area, if not mistaken??..Anyway, good to have you here and have a fun ol' time surfin' in BC!
Shamefully, badminton isn't a "hot" sports here. Having hispanic as majority here, soccer is a bigger thing definately. Houston is the melting point for oil and gas industry. Looking at the oil price now it is difficult to be not busy in this industry. Yes i notice, which is great!! Hello George! Being born and raise in Malaysia, it is difficult to get rid of the Malaysian slang "lah". But can't say the same to my 11-yr old son who goes to school here. Hmmm.. hopefully i have a chance to meet up with Malayali, would be great to find another Malaysian here in Houston. Thanks for the welcome ctjcad.
Btw.. ..despite his screen-name sounding like Malaysia or Malay, malayali is not of M'sian origin...I thought i just pass that tip along to you, in case you'll get excited knowing you're meet another M'sian & start speaking Malay to him...
As ctjcad points out, malayali's name isn't what it looks to be. He is as Malaysian as I am Swedish Malayali is neither Malay-Ali nor Malaya-Lee He has posted a brief explanation here. Anyway, I hope you meet and organise more badminton. Have fun here, yen_saw
Thanks again ctjcad and Oldhand for the "warning" Almost make a fool of myself!! Thanks Asabaz! i assumed you are from Ipoh? I am visiting Malaysia this coming June and will stay at Ipoh for couple of days! How's Ipoh nowadays? The "bean sprout chicken rice" still as good as 10 yrs ago?
yo, welcome to the forum! this place is infested .... errmm ... i mean full of malaysians, which is nice to see.
yeah, i'm from ipoh. you have relatives here in ipoh? ipoh is still the same. old school town. i have never eaten the bean sprout chicken but i think you can safely assume that it is still good since people from all over peninsular malaysia still come to ipoh to have a taste of it.
Hi yen, welcome onboard! And have fun! I attended a talk on investing in Oil and Gas in Texas, which is a relatively new thing here. But the promoter speaks highly of the returns especially now that oil prices have shot through the roof. He painted a very, very rosy picture. He also said that such investments are very common in Texas, which perhaps began more than 100 years ago. What is your opinion?
I dont know how I missed this particular thread. I am not from Malaysia, I am from the state of Kerala, India. Thanks Oldhand for clarifying it... And I am not in Houston. I reside in Dallas now. The best way to find out details about the Houston clubs is go to their website. www.houstonbadmintonclub.com
Well.. ..if you would've stopped moving around from Austin to Houston to Dallas, we would've spotted you and you won't miss this thread...
I have friends staying there, well Ipoh is a big city! I will definately try the bean sprout chicken rice when i visit Malaysia this June Hi Loh, sorry for being ignorant i have been away from this thread I am too working in oil and gas industry in Houston. and i have to say this industry is booming like never before. I am not sure what type of investment you are talking about, investing in oil and gas shares will generally guarantee a good return. But in the volatile US market, i would invest on commodities share for now. Property investment in Texas is also a hot thing, as this place is not as expensive as in NY or Cali right now, but it will soon become one. Thanks for the info!!
Yeah... ..i heard about that one, too!..And esp. if our Loh puchases a property in Texas and, by chance, has oil deposit/reserve underneath its ground...WOW!!.. *However, i've also heard stories that owners who purchased properties that, by chance, sit on top of oil deposit/reserve, they also complained about the unpleasant smell coming out of the ground.
I wouldn't be too worry about the smell when you are sitting on millions of black gold laughing your way to the bank!
Aaahh.. ..if i'm Loh, i'll just go out there and find an empty piece of land, even if it's in the middle of nowhere and purchase it. No need to buy a property, but make sure the piece of land is surrounded by those oil rigging machines
