Guys anyone would like to confirm about these new pairing for the coming Thomas Cup? Here is the website http://www.badzine.info/content/view/962/
that's what's been rumoured. nothing concrete yet, i don't think. looks like PBSI are using the ABC for them to try out this pairing, though nova has mentioned in some of the INA papers that he doesn't think he's suitable, he thinks flandy is a better choice.
At the end of the day, it is unlikely this pair will play in an important game. Even if one of Luluk/Alven/Kido/Setiwan get injured, they will more than likely put either Candra or Nova with the remaining one. The Third pair are not really a third pair, but moreso two substitutes.
I am not worried about them....tough for them to play..needmorepraticeplusNova is not too strong in termof stamina....justenjoy theirplay...dont expect toomuch from this pair.
In Kompas today reported that there is no plan to include Nova/Candra in coming Thomas cup. The reason to include this pair, according toLius Pongoh that fora a long time, Candra expressed his interest to partner with Nova for tournament. Flandy will be focusing on XD as they want to makesure He/Vita will stay in top 4. There is a chance that Zhang Ya Wen/Xie Zhong Bo could nail 4th position.
from thestar online All eyes on Indonesian scratch pair Candra-Nova PETALING JAYA: Indonesia have pulled off a big surprise by naming veterans Candra Wijaya-Nova Widianto in the men’s doubles event of the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC), scheduled to be held in Johor Baru from April 15-10. The duo’s first appearance as a pair in an international tournament will certainly be under scrutiny by all the Thomas Cup Finals participating teams – especially Malaysia. Indonesia may field the veterans for the Finals, which will be held in Jakarta from May 11-18 and the ABC could be their final and ideal testing ground. Currently, doubles specialist Candra forms a formidable partnership with the United States-based Tony Gunawan while Nova is the other half of Indonesia’s world number one ranked mixed doubles pair with Lilyana Natsir. Given their experience and skill, Candra-Nova could be lethal as Indonesia’s second ranked pair in the Thomas Cup Finals. Indonesia have entered Candra and Nova for the ABC instead of their world number one ranked pair and world champions Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan. Their other doubles entries are Luluk Hadiyanto-Alven Yulianto and Joko Riyadi-Hendra Gunawan. National chief coach Yap Kim Hock said that Indonesia were known for fielding scratch partnerships but Malaysia would take note of the Candra-Nova paring in the ABC. “They could field Candra with any doubles players in their team and still form a strong partnerships. This ABC could be an experiment for them,” said Kim Hock. “Indonesia have not named their final squad for the Thomas Cup Finals. Let’s wait and see what they do.” Indonesia followed the formbook in naming their men’s singles players based on the list released by the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) yesterday. Their six-member men singles players for the ABC are Taufik Hidayat, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Simon Santoso, Tommy Sugiarto, Yunus Alamsyah and Andreas Adityawarman. China will also not field their top men’s doubles pair of Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng. They have listed only Guo Zhengdong-Xie Zhongbo for the ABC meet. The world number two pair of Cai Yun-Haifeng had not been impressive in the last few tournaments. China will send a strong men's singles team led by world number one Lin Dan. The others are Bao Chunlai, Chen Jin, Chen Yu, Lu Yi and Zhu Weilun. The BAC’s chief operation officer (COO) Karen Koh said that all participating teams, including the Asian powerhouses – China, South Korea and Malaysia – have named their best players. The ABC is the last tournament for the Asian players to win Olympic qualifying points. The qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics will be determined after April 30. Malaysia's challenge will be spearheaded by former winners Lee Chong Wei (men's singles) and two-time champions Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah (men's doubles). Chong Wei won the crown in 2006 while Tan Fook-Wan Wah were champions for the last two years.
Off topic-PON is.. ..an abbreviation for Pekan Olahraga National (Indonesian National Games). It's an Indonesian-version of the Olympics. Yes, it's held every 4 yrs & it involves most if not all of the provinces in INA. This yr, it will be held in the city of Samarinda: http://www.pon2008.com/
Candra will play in the rear... I just learned that: PBSI announced that all INA players competing at the Olympics will not be allowed to play in PON! Because the Olympics is only 2 weeks away from PON. This includes: Taufik, Sony, Maria Kristin, Luluk, Alven, Kido, Hendra, Lily, Nova, Flandy, Vita, so far... still waiting for the final word on Jo-Greysia and Rani-Endang... Candra can play for Jakarta in PON, no problem... Maybe he will be paired with his own brother, Rendra... Rendra's normal partner, Fran, plays for Central Java. Rendra is listed as a Jakarta player, I think. It would be cool to see Candra-Rendra... but I don't know who's going to be the front player between those two... Both are bangers!
Candra is really good player Nova too,I think they can play together... I really happy Candra play again in Thomas....^^
