Hi does anyone heard of or remember this doubles n mix doubles player, from indonesia I think his name is trikus hariyanto guess he partnered halim hariyanto in the last 2002 thomas cup for the second men's double match...
The Great Indonesian Trikus Haryanto's actual name is Tri Kusharjanto. He is one of the great Indonesian doubles players. Trikus is 34 now. Four players - Trikus, Susi Susanti, Ardy Wiranata and Taufik Hidayat - have won the Indonesia Open six times each. However, Trikus' record is unique and even more impressive - he won five consecutive titles. Initially, Indonesia fielded him as a mixed doubles player. He started out with Minarti Timur as his partner. They first won the Indonesia Open XD in 1995 - Trikus was just 21 then. In all, this duo won the Indonesia Open XD five times - in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Trikus won it again in 2001, with Emme Ermawati as his partner. In 1996, he partnered Lili Tampi to win the Asian Badminton Championships XD. He was then shifted to men's doubles. He went on to win the MD title at the 2001 Asian Badminton Championships (with Bambang Suprianto) and, again, at the 2004 ABC (with Sigit Budiarto). Trikus also possesses an Olympic medal. At the 2000 Summer Olympics, he (with Minarti Timur) took the XD silver after losing to China's Zhang Jun and Gao Ling. IMHO, Trikus' most impressive MD combination was with Halim Haryanto. Although this partnership was short-lived, they played a crucial part in Indonesia's victory in the 2002 Thomas Cup. In the Group B round-robin, Indonesia had beaten Malaysia 4-1. Only Wong Choong Hann won for Malaysia, beating Marleve Mainaky. That forced Malaysia's then coach Park Joo-Bong to make two changes for the final encounter. To take on Taufik Hidayat, he picked Lee Tsuen Seng and dropped Ong Ewe Hock. And to better Malaysia's chances in MD, he brought together Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah who had until then been playing with other partners. Well, Malaysia almost made it. Wong Choong Hann beat Marleve Mainaky again. And, just as PJB calculated, Lee Tsuen Seng beat Taufik Hidayat. It was left to Candra-Sigit and Trikus-Halim to restore Indonesia's hopes. Candra-Sigit had little difficulty in beating Malaysia's Chan & Chew. But the question was whether Trikus-Halim could beat CTF-LWW. Eventually, experience won over speed - Trikus & Halim made it 2-2. (Hendrawan then steamrolled Roslin Hashim to make it 3-2 for Indonesia. So moved by this victory was Hendrawan that he named his son 'Thomas' ) If Indonesia didn't have so many excellent doubles players then, Trikus would have still been playing at the international level - like Candra Wijaya and Tony Gunawan. I wonder where he is now and what he is doing.
Correction Just noticed that your thread's title says Triskus Hariyanto! It's being corrected to read: "Trikus Haryanto"
then he might be him, a not so tall player. i witnessed the best defense i have ever seen in one particular rally
Are you sure you watched Trikus in Canada in 1992? He would have been just 18 that year. I'm not sure he was in the touring squad back then.
I remember before Trikus played for national team he was one of the best single player (during his junior time). He won so many local tourney at that time. I guess becoz at that time Indonesia got too many good single players (Joko, Ardi, Alan, Arbi) that 'forced' him to play double (xd & md) in national team. I watched him played friendly match against Dong Jiong in Surabaya (cant remember which year, think it was 92 or 93). It was ended up 1-1 (the 3rd set never been played).
well, i didnt recall that xd player was trikus. i just interested in badminton back then and didnt really know who's who.
Tri Kusharyanto is still active in the local circuit (club players of PB Suryanaga Gudang Garam), partnering former Pelatnas players Bambang Supriyanto and Yunita Tetty in MD and XD respectively. They will surely be representive East Java for the PON (Indonesia National Games). These 2 pairs were supposedly to be sent to the Osaka International Challenge 2008, but, the club reasoned that these senior players were still not ready to compete in an International Challenge event In fact, Trikus/Yunita won the Vietnam International Challenge 2007, beating Pelatnas's most promising XD pair Tantowi Ahmad/Yulianti 21-15, 21-17 That shows that even as club players nowadays, Trikus still can win some international titles. Trikus/Bambang also beat Djarum's best MD pair, Rian/Yoke in the QF of Kejurnas last year
The crowd and badminton fans usually love the way Trikus performed. From what I know, Vietnamese fans loved the way Trikus played in their Vietnam Challenge last year. The Solo -Central Java- fans also enjoyed him during the 2007 National Championships where Trikus-Bambang went to the semifinals. They were eventually beaten by the eventual National MD Champ, Luluk-Alven... Trikus is such a joy to watch... He represents our INA badminton style at our best. Flamboyant, energetic, non-repetitive, unpredictable, full of joy and full of dynamics...
