    As a trial run for the Youth Olympic Games 2010, Singapore may be awarded the Asian Youth Games in mid-2009.

    THE official mascot for the inaugural Asian Youth Games (AYG) was given a big welcoming hug by Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports; and Transport) Teo Ser Luck.

    Unveiled to the public for the first time at Velocity @ Novena Square, the friendly lion needs a name.

    And that is where you come in. Join The Straits Times and the AYG organising committee and participate in the week-long 'Name-the-AYG-Mascot' contest which begins today.

    AYG's Mascot unveiled

    THE Asian Youth games unveiled its official mascot and theme song on Thursday.

    It was launched by senior parliamentary secretary for the Ministry of Communication, Youth and Sports, Teo Ser Luck at Velocity@Novena.

    The lion mascot symbolises friendship, excellence and respect.

    During the June 29-July 7 Games, Singapore will host some 1100 athletes aged 14-17 from 45 countries.
