I was shocked to read the news in xinhuanet this morning. After the Korean Cup fracas, it seemed that the world number one has not learned the lesson and is as volatile as ever and what is more, the incident was witnessed by the journalists , coaches and his teammates. His act inevitably tarnishes the image of Chinese badminton team which is alrealy marred by controversial match fixing.
Lin Dan punched the men singles coach Ji Xinpeng, Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist after he and Ji fell out over the outcome of an internal Thomas Cup simulation match. The match simulated the format of Thomas Cup comprising Singles and Doubles matches. Lin Dan was grouped with Chen Yu wheareas Bao Chunlai was with Chen Jin in another team. Although Lin Dan defeated Chen Jin in the singles match , his team eventually lost to their opponent. Apparently, Lin Dan was not happy with the result of the match and questioned Ji about the arrangement of the order of the ties. Heated arguments ensued which saw Lin hitting Ji amidst the conflict. Ji did not retaliate though. For more details, you may refer to the report in the link,

Any kind soul care to translate the article?:)

At least it shows he has some "fight" in him!:D

I would probably prefer my students to be hyped up and motivated to win rather than sanguine about it, But Punching seems going a bit far.

In Chinese culture, it's ridiculous to have a player showing any disrespect to an elder ppl, esp if that person is a coach of Team China!

if non China fans were to comment on this, it will go down the path of so many locked thread. i just want to comment on the act of punching. as with the act of throwing the racket, i think both are unexceptable. especially in sport. be it provoked or not. i could understand the need to win and the determination of a champion. that however is not an excuse.

    Hmm..

..he might've had a bad day..But still quite surprised, too, at the news. Seems like LD snapped so easily. And it seems like LD is turning into Taufik's "bad boy persona"..:(:p
....after what had happened in the numerous threads in this yr's Korea Open MS Final incident, which eventually got locked, i think BCers have run out of energy in commenting/condemning LD's latest incident.:p

yup, poor show. i believe TH's problem was with PBSI, i don't think he personally had any problems with the coaches, certainly not to the extent that he would hit them. physically hitting your coach is just wrong, no matter which culture or country you're from.

if the incident is as plain and straightforward like the media has reported it, then i think that is unacceptable. Ji has not done anything to directly anger LD and LD in turn uses force to display his anger on Ji.

LD's temper needs to be controlled and contained. it is utmost important for the training staff to maintain respect and discipline otherwise some player(s) may think that they are invincible in the team and causes unneccessary disruption to the order.

i personally thinks that some disciplinary action is called for here.
