What do you use to add weight to your racqeut to make it a little head heavy? Has anyone done this before. Thanks

Hi joonw427, most people would tape it on the frame/head.

Here's how I did it, but not with lead-tape. I just used some electrician's tape and the useless finishing tape from yonex:

i guess my concern is if the lead tape is easy to peel off (and reusable) when it's time to restring my racquet

thx jhirata.. yours is a pretty good idea too since the yonex tape is easy to peel off and reusable

I normally use lead to restore a racket's balance point after I've gripped it up to my liking. Here's my Woven 7 with (quite a bit of) lead on the nose. You can just make it out - I've polished it to bring it out.

The balance point for this racket is supposed to be 290-300mm, and I needed this much lead to get it back there after adding two grips.

With regard to removal, there's no need to take the tape off if you place it around any grommets. I get mine in very thin strips (5mm) and apply it to the top and bottom sides, leaving the grommets free. If you do ever remove it, it does leave a sticky residue that's tough to get off, but it'll come off eventually with a bit of hard work.

I applied a victor protection tape.Cost around 2.5USD.USefulll..since it wont chip the paint when u took it off..unlike other tape. For the cheaper rackets,i only use the electrician tape..since i dont wanna pay 2.5USD for each of my 8 rackets..LOL

So i bought a lead tape from my local sporting goods store and added about 1.5 gms of weight on the head of my Chaopai Nano Power 728 racquet. it now feels like an armortec racquet. Attached are the pics after the mod.

adding weight to head moves the sweet spot

I dont know if it works the same with badminton rackets as it does with tennis rackets, (I would assume it is the same) but when we used lead tape on a tennis racket it was to adjust the "sweet spot"...You can move the sweet spot up or down by positioning your lead tape on each side above or below the existing sweet spot...I dont know what it does to the sweet spot when positioned at top or top corners...

On a tennis racket you can move the sweet spot about 1 inch and so on a badminton racket it would be maybe half an inch which would be hard to tell unless you had really good technique so that you always hit the shuttle in the sweet spot...my technique is not that good yet..:)

[IMG]Nobody told about this method. Before stringing.
Anyway the glue is very good. Lead tape will stay. If I want to take it out I must do it a bit by bit.
    This tape is 14mm wide

I think its not going to change where the sweet spot is at all. Reason being is that the balance point/fulcrum on a badminton racket is on the shaft, but on a tennis racket it lays in the string bed, thus moving the sweet spot when you rebalance the tennis racket as you wish. Using lead tape on a badminton racket will then change the balance point only.

I agree with illusionistpro, on those lead tape packages it states to be used on tennis rackets, not badminton rackets. To maximize the head heaviness place two at the 1 and 11 o clock positions according to the lead tape instructions.

:)This is not the way it works...adding the weight moves the spot because you add mass to the frame...it really has nothing to do with the balance...it changes the balance of course just as putting on extra grip changes the balance....what makes the racket hit harder is the added mass on the frame...this added mass also is only utilized if you are stong enough to keep the same racket head speed through the point of impact...Mass and head speed are what make the difference in the smash...:D
