Is there a BC member from Laos out there who can update us on the results? Stories? Anything? :) So far, all I know is: http://www.badmintonasia.org/event_details.aspx?eventID=151

I'm so glad more of our neighbours are all getting into the game. Vietnam is now so into badminton... The Philippines have a Gold GP event. Even Brunei will have a BWF tournament again later this year [after the Brunei Open 1* absence for a couple of years]. I keep getting mixed signals about the status though [BAC said Brunei International Challenge, BWF said Brunei International Series]. Don't know who is more correct...

Hmmm, maybe next year we will have:
    Cambodia Future Series ;)
    Myanmar Future Series ;)
    Bangladesh Future Series ;)
Papua New Guinea Future Series
    East Timor Future Series :D

I am pretty certain Team INA will sweep the titles in WS, MD, WD and XD (at least).

The annual Robot Vietnam International Challenge is ever so popular while the Vietnam GP is also attractive for at least second-tier players.

    Or perhaps Brunei Future Series.
I bet the cash will be huge.
And to popularize badminton in Brunei, rewards will be presented by the Sultan himself.

All INA players are through to the QF to be played today.
I predict there will be an all-INA Final in MD and WD.

George, if you look at the results file, our BJSS Juniors for MS went.

MS = Chung Pei Wee, Soo Kar Seong , Zulfadli from KLRC. Chung Pei Wee lost to Indonesia's Hendri in QF

Pei Wei chung is not a junior anymore:eek:
    ZULFADLI Zulkiffli
Pretty impressive results by Zulfadli Zulkilffli, the 16 years old young lads who upset no. 3 seeds host players in R16 but went down fighting against another promising talent from Thailand..

I was in touring Laos some years ago. Badminton is a very popular street game. People just hit the shuttle back and forth. I was in Macau two weeks ago. The same there. At the grassroots level, badminton is very much alive in East Asia.

    Semifinal Results!

Until the quarterfinals, you can find the results here:
View attachment Results Lao Future Series 2008 25 APR.xls

    Today, I just got updated:
    MS
Hendri Apriliyanto [INA, seed #6] def. Poodchalat Pisit [THA, seed #7] 21-18, 21-18.
Bayu Sukmo Pamulang [INA] def. Duong Phuong Nam [VIE, seed #2] 21-15, 21-17.
    All INA finals tmrw!

    WS
Ratchanok Inthanon [THA] def. Jenna Gozali [INA] 21-14, 21-15... Actually, I heard that Jenna originally was not even registered to play WS, but the local Laos organizers pleaded for an INA representative to make the competitive field more exciting... :D So, the team INA relented, in the spirit of a good neighbor and fellow world-badminton citizens, to put one in: Jenna. ;)

    MD
    Wifqi-Alfiat [INA, seed #1] def. Duong Bao Duc-Pham Cao Hieu [VIE, seed#4] 21-19, 21-10
Rizky-Albert [INA, seed #3] def. Angly Phoudthakeo-Bouanguen Sengsavara [LAO local heroes] 21-9, 21-12
All INA finals here too!!

    WD
Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung-Thai Thi Hong Gam [VIE] def. Jenna-Luluk [INA] 16-21, 23-21, 21-17... Must have been an awesome match!
    Anisa-Rani [INA] def. Khonesanith Inthavanh-Manivone Mernchalean [LAO] 21-5, 21-8. :)

    XD
Duong Bao Duc-Thai Thi Hong Gam [VIE] def. Wifqi-Luluk [INA] 23-21, 18-21, 21-13.

I think so far, this Laos Future Series have been fun. All the ASEAN youngsters fighting it out on the courts... :) :D Hey, where are the Filipinos, Singaporeans, and Myanmarians... :p :D They should also have joined the fun...

So, I got my predictions wrong on Jenna Gozali (WS and WD) and the XD pair Wifqi Windarto/Luluk Maria Ulfa.

Not bad, Wifqi/Afiat should win another title here.

I heard that the 15 yo Djarum boy (could be Hendri Aprilliyanto) is definitely a solid prospect. Fang Kaixiang and Fung Permadi have great hopes on him.
