Hi. I only use plastic shuttles in our league. I have tried using Bg-80 24lbs and to our very few good players it is already a very high tension comparatively. I have also heard that high tension with plastic shuttles doesn't work the same as feathers, so I should just stick to low tension? To me 24lbs is the breakpoint between low and high.
BG-70 Pro is pretty decent for plastic birds since its a little thicker than BG-80 and a lot more durable. As for tension, its really your call. You can always try to drop it a pound or two at a time to gauge a feel on what you like.
Thanks for you suggestion Waldo98. I think I need a little bit more insight on the physics of how tensions and strings for plastic birdies are different from feathers, since people say plastics are for backyard badminton. I have to use plastics and now I realize I can't use many people's reviews on strings and tensions, and maybe even rackets. I need a general guide for what to use with plastics. Low and high tensions and such.
Use whatever string you want, at whatever tension you want. It's not like you need a seperate racquet for plastics and feathers, so why strings?
they are the same, in the way that it still flies. Do you think Lin Dan can't play plastic? of course not. Great players can adapt, not just stick to one thing. Theres no need to have a seperate racquet with seperate strings just for plastic and a seperate racquet with seperate strings for feathers.
very tru. i chose to play with plastic because it last soooooooooooooo much longer than feather. one feather last about 2min for me and i can't stand paying so much for something less durable than the inexpensive.
now, we have feather killer. in 2 minutes....? even faster than professionals. master Dink only famous of racket killer, havent hear that he is also a feather killer........
BG80 is fine. i used the same setup as you back in high school (bg 80@24lbs) and it lasted me the whole season and then some.
Not worth it because plastic is just deemed as a beginners shuttle? Or for reasons such as durability issues that will hurt the NBG96.
What on earth is NBG96 ? Since you only play with plastics, you could just get your racquet strung with bg65, but at a higher tension. I believe, that the tension makes more difference in your game than the string itself.
Plastic shuttles, despite using natural cork to make them more bouncy, cannot be hit with control, crispness and great initial speed which only feathers are capable of. In other words, more of your handspeed power and control are wasted with plastics, which is not the case with feathers. With plastics you will get more injuries, especially if you play with very high tension. Common sense suggests that you use an economy string strung to perhaps no more than 20lbs. Strings like BG80, BG85, NBG95 or NBG98, or the top Ashaway strings or other top Yonex or other brands' strings will be a waste. Plastic shuttles have their place in badminton but only at the very bottom ladder or the backyard.
How does playing with plastic make you get more injuries? I am a feather user but I would like to know for the curiosity of it. I do agree that if you play with plastics, just choose a durable string like BG65 or BG70PRO and string it at around 20lbs.
They're heavier. I have to use plastic a lot but I still find using BG80@24lbs feels better for me than 20lbs BG65. Feels too soggy, and even harder to control plastic shuttle bounce.
Feathers fly off the stringbed much faster, giving you a crispness plastics cannot do because plastics feel hard and more of your energy goes back into your arm, thus imposing a heavier load on your arm.
