good photo/image editor?

Hi guys. i am looking for a simple and decent image/photo editor. mainly used to cropping/resizing/editing of images taken from a digital camera. i'd really prefer it to be simple and free as well. i don't want to shell out too much money for it.

oh. and btw, i am looking for something simple. something that can do basic things like crop, scale. i am planning to use it mainly for downloading images from my digital camera, edit them and then upload them here onto the website.

I thought most of the digital cam comes with some image editor software?

What about download from Tucows, some are shareware and some are just demo.

thansk for the suggestion. my sony does come with one. but a very brain-dead one. it can do crop, and it has a relatively easy to use user interface, but it doesn't scale images!

i took those pictures for the grip, i wanted to scale them so they won't take up so much space, but i couldn't.

get the canon zoom ex-browser

very easy to use
don't know if it's compatible with your sony but worth a try i guess..
download it from canon usa.com it think

thanks for the suggestion. i went to canon.com and it looks like they are only update version. i don't have the original installed so i guess no go on that front.

You can try Paint Shop Pro (www.jasc.com). They let you test drive the downloadable full version free for 30 days. I use both PSP and photoshop myself. Usually, PSP for quick editing, and leave the fancy stuff for photoshop. It's a simple but solid piece of software. It's $99 if you want to keep using it after 30 days but you can at least give it a try.

it turns out my company has a site license for PSP. and since i regularly work from home. i am allowed to install a copy. so my photo editing problem is solved!

i was just wondering kwun, if we post pics would you like them to be a maximum in size/width height or just as big as it has to be?

FF, i'd appreciate it if they are as small as possible. but big enough for the purpose.

it'd be nice if the image are narrower than the content box. so it won't look too disruptive.

the file size limit right now is 256k. and i believe that's much more than enough for images.

Kwun, PSP is generally considered to be one of the best photo editors, except for Photoshop. However, if you decide that you need something else (you decide to leave your company to start your own international conglomerate and remove the Jasc program from your computer), you could try Photosuite. I picked up a copy at Best Buy last year for $29.99 and got back a $30 rebate check for it, and I believe they occasionally run similar rebate deals. It does all of the basic things you are looking for quite well and is easy to use (well, red-eye reduction was a bit tricky), but I suspect that Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and PhotoImpact do a better job with touch up work like adjusting the gamma and color levels, and offer fancier options for funky image manipulation and special effects.

right now i planning to stay employed, however, if i ever decide to bring BadmintonCentral to an IPO, i will definitely use your advice....
