good photo/image editor?

I don't know if you still need any feedback kwun, but I'd just post it anyway.

Gnu Image Manipulator Program (GIMP).

Open Source, free, you can modify it if you like. Free. Almost as good as Photoshop. Free.

Linux users swear by it. Has a Win32 version. You must install the GTK+ runtime library first.

don't overlook MS PAINT. It comes with windows and is surprisingly versitile. The one bundled with XP can crop, resize, and import just fine. It doesn't anti-alias the image as it resizes, but you never said it had to anti-alias.

If you want something more powerful, try GIMP. It works in windows as well as linux, and is as powerful as photoshop in the right hands... though it is much much harder to use than photoshop. If you think photoshop is hard then you should probably just skip gimp then. Gimp is freeware btw. (actually GNU open source, which is close enough to free.)

btw kwun, increase the maximum vertical resolution of images. That way i can combine multiple images into one file (smaller size and fewer posts and less screen space used). There is no reason not too.

I had been fortunate enough to have a copy of licensed Photoshop 7 to used at the office, so, I'd find anything else pretty boring.

Try lightroom. I've been using it on my latst HK Open pics. Pretty good.

lightroom is awesome for very fast sorting and adjustment of photos. things like crop, exposure, color adjust, etc.

for real editing more powerful softwares are still needed.

i think i use b4 something like microsoft office picture manager to resize the picture or whatever thing u want...

since apple broke up with adobe. i would say there won't be another choice for mac user. that's the situation!
photoshop is still the coolest!

..for the simple tasks that you're after, of simple cropping, quick fix and resizing, i'd go with brl's suggestion of using the Microsoft Paint (standard in most if not all PCs)..........it doesn't get any cheaper.......and simpler and (free) than that..
Or if you'd like to try, you can check out PictureTrail Photo Editor or Paint.NET (very similar to Photoshop)..I believe both are free and can be downloaded from download.com..

Hi guys. i am looking for a simple and decent image/photo editor. mainly used to cropping/resizing/editing of images taken from a digital camera. i'd really prefer it to be simple and free as well. i don't want to shell out too much money for it.

I just use the freeware PICASA from Google. Its simple to use and not too technical compared to Photoshop. I just don't what kind of photo editing requirements you have, but if its just for adjusting contrast, brightness, sharpness, cropping, resizing, etc.. I think this is a good one.

Anyway, I take back what I said about GIMP. Tried using it when Photoshop wasn't available in the past two months and heck is was difficult to use.

If you have the dosh, go Photoshop. Even the older version 7 (if possible, CS) will be more than adequate for most things people do and more.

It's the granddaddy of graphics editing software.

But that has been resolved.
Adobe now has a very collaborative union with Apple

In fact, the Creative Suite 3 package (which has all the pro software including Photoshop) has now been released for OS X Leopard, Apple's latest OS for the Mac.

And, you bet, it works faster and better on a Mac
