hiya guys, i'm in the market for some new kit, got my eye on a couple of lens' and a laptop. what spec are your laptops? i was looking in the 2gb ram, 2ghz cpu ad about 250gb hd range.. OS is as yet undetermined - but since i've never used a Mac before i'd like to avoid it.. any suggestions?

oops.. i did mean to say that the laptop was specifically for photo-editing while i'm at events that sort of makes it relevant doesn't it ?
If you are using the laptop for imaging then a good amount of ram is needed. IMO the important factors are ranked from: 1.RAM 2.CPU 3.GPU 4.HD
well i've ordered my laptop: 4gb ram, 2ghz cpu, 512mb gfx and 250gb hd should be here early next week! can't wait
it's custom built - gonna have the 64bit version of vista on too.. i'm quite literally almost on the cutting edge..
My question as well. How about the screen? Is it good for photoediting? Why have you got such a small hard drive? The other investment you need is a portable photoprinter and you are set!! (plus a white balance card) (and...a few new lenses...and a Mark III) Have a question, do laptops ever come with two separate hard drives?
under no illusion that the screen will be rubbish for getting true color on.. somethig i will just have to bear with when i'm on the road.. lol - i thought 250gb was huge! i suppose the plan will be to transfer the RAW images to an external hd once i've processed them. or start a DVD catalogue of events.. or both for redundancy. haha.. aye.. more lenses.. portable photo printers are cheap - not convinced i need a MkIII just yet hehe.. perhaps when i get the front cover of next years AE programme hahahahaha
since i've been in the uk, every time i've bought a computer, i would just buy a copy of pc advisor, read the last 10-15 pages or so to get their recommended machines for my price range and gone with that. no problems so far, those guys know what they're talking about.
i hope u didnt get a glossy screen, u will kick yourself for not thinking about it, they are quite literally the worst thing, why companies do this idk, but its obviously going to move around a lot in different light settings and the glare will piss you off, just a tip.
dont get vista well dont get vista made by microsoft use unattended versions or custom built version i had vista home prem on my laptop used to kill the memory then got me hand on vista fancy which is a hacked version basiclly a lot of junk pulled out runs smooth i mean im running on a 1GB 600MHZ ram and AMD X2 1.7Ghz 2MB Cache processor but i can run Adobe After Effects, Premier and other powerful programmes without it crashing wooo
