hi ive searhed an found out that lead tape is made of plumbum. isnt it dangerous? what if someone is tired after a match and accidentally bites the tape?
If your scared of lead tape then you can try to wipe the tape with tissues to remove lead dust. You can also put nail polish on the lead tape after you put on your racket.
what an astounding observation Yes, lead (or plumbum, if that's what you prefer to call it) is, like many heavy-metals, not so good for your health... Often manufacturers cover the lead a bit, a layer of paint, of maybe a film of plastic. So the surface area of 'bad stuff' is minimal. Just don't touch it, don't chew on it, and don't lick the inside (and on a serious note, wash your hands after applying the tape, and wash the scissors you used to cut it)
I was a bit wary of using lead tape so I looked for something different. I tried aluminum foil tape used for duct work. It was too light. A good compromise that is relatively cheap is copper tape. I tried this and you can get about 3 to 4 grams easily by using strips narrow as the lead tape used for rackets but double and triple layers is needed. I bought this copper tape from Lee Valley.
My general opinion: Eating lead is not very sensible, eating rackets, even more insensible. In general, eating anything related to badminton is not such a good idea!
Lead, as an element, is represented by the symbol Pb. Pb = Plumbum Um, why would you want to bite your racquet, accidentally or otherwise? Is it a cure for tiredness???
are they still made with lead? i thought it was just called lead tape cuz thats what it was actually made out of long time ago when lead was awsum, not so much now. so they still use lead for sure???
Pb what why would someone wanna bite his racket. the only danger i can see is if the lead isn't taped firmly on the frame, it can fling out and hit someone in the eye or head why buy lead? if u buy fake racket, it comes from lead paint job LOL
Why use lead? Lead is for making the inner core of most bullets. Bite bamboo for food but don't bite lead .
Use gold flakes is better. Even if you eat the requet, is still great for health. Ever tried sushi make out of gold flakes?
I don't see any smiley. I'm guessing you are serious. Pencil lead is made mainly of graphite. Lead tape could be a problem for a few reasons. As a player and stringer, you can come in contact with the lead. How much comes off I don't know but it's enough to mark my fingers. Maybe it won't matter much if it doesn't get into my blood but it's also not uncommon to have blistered or cut fingers from playing lots or stringing. I'm at an age where this may not matter but for children who come into contact with this, it'd be better to err on the side of caution. Destroyed rackets is another problem. If a racket with lead weighting is broken, will the user carefully remove the lead first or just trash it, sending it to the landfill? AFAIK, copper would be a better bet for these reasons.
The only problem with copper is the price. I know that some company have lead tape protected by a layer of flexible plastic to prevent the lead touching your skin but it only works if your skin is dry not wet.
why not just give the racket the LD treatment? cut two strands of athletic tape, about 0,5cm wide (cut an notch, you can tear the rest). as long as you like, and tape it over the frame. good for 1,5-2g most of the time. Easy, cheap, available...what more could you ask for?
thanks to all replies. I have now finally got my lead tape and Ive make things to get the racket safe First I took a layer of red nail polish. It didnt look good and reminded me of the french flag . I didnt care about that and after put another extra layer of transparent color. That wasnt enough so I took some electric tape to cover it more. The white electric tape isnt really stuck so Im gonna get some superglue to glue it and then add an extra layer of transparent nail polish. The balance point is now a wooping 330mm Here's a pic of how it looks like after the three applyments(?)
