Difference between Yonex Mavis 350 and 500
Hi
I play badminton just for the exercise with a colleague. We use Yonex Mavis shuttlecocks at the moment but as I was going to buy a new bunch online I notice that they also have Mavis 500. Is there a lot of difference between the two? And is it poitless for an amature to buy the more expensive Mavis 500?
Regards

my answer isn't definite, but i get the general feeling that the m500s are a bit fragile! that is, in comparison to the m350s.
the tips of the skirt on the m500s break easier than the m350s. don't know if thsi varies for other people.

i play with the mavis300 and mavis 350...and the 350 is better...
i am assuming the 500 is better...but since you are just playing for exercise, it's your choice, the price difference should be around $2-3 per tube...and one tube can last pretty long...
IMO, just stick w/ the 350

350s are not better than 300s...350s don't feel like feathers at all!!! and why does the skirt matter...i have many many birds lying around at home and all the skirts are in perfect condition. The least of your worries with plastics are durability...what you should be thinking about is flight similarity and feel similarity.

I wouldn't say that durability should be the aspect to be least worried about, unless you mean that most plastics are generally inherently sturdy. Otherwise, there'd be little need for synthetics.

the holes on the 500 are smaller than the ones on 350.

thanks for your support.
Don't worry, the feather debate was started by taneepak when he was pushing feathers in a mavis 300 vs 350 thread.
the 500 feels heavier than mavis 300/350/370, and yes slightly more durable too. The 500 is not commonly used. Better stick to 300 and 350 because most nylon clubs and school use these 2 types. If u played with 500, u could be at a slight disadvantage if u r planning to play with other nylon players. Personally i prefer 300 because i can adjust the speed to suit my area.

It's quite simple, Yonex named and priced) their nylon shuttles based on how close they come to mimicing the flight of the more costly shuttles made from goose-feathers, that is used by most fans of the sport.
Mavis 500 > Mavis 370 > Mavis 350 > Mavis 300 ...
Generally higher number shuttles perform better.
But performance isn't really why nylons are choosen in the first place, and the difference fromm 300 to 500 is quite minimal, in my view.. So better just stick with the one that is least expensive (as that is the reason to choose plastics in the first place)..

P.S. A side note.. Many players that tired MAvis 500 and 350 here in sweden felt te "medium" speed of 500 usually was a bit faster than 350 "medium" so therfore they choose to use 350 in some recreational leagues, and it is also less expesnive of course..
