Well, what I would like in a string, is its ability to hold tension. Hopefully you've read my other thread, but since its my dad's b-day, i want to get him a string that'll last him for a while. I bet he'll still use the same string even if it lost like 10 lbs of tension.

So my question is, which string would you reccomend holds tension the best? Performance of the string is also important.

    Thanks

Sweet, but people say its performance isnt as good especially under lower tension. Does that mean I should use the string at 25+ tension to get its full potential?

i am not sure if such a string exists as you have a couple of contradicting requirements.

the best compromise is thicker strings like the bg70 as Pete suggested (and listen to this guys as he knows his stuff). also, higher tension automatically means less longevity. so you need to keep that in mind.

Ive read from several posts that higher tension should only be used for more advanced players. My dad is still intermediate, and is only a recreational player. Do you think it'll be an issue?

i wouldn't worry too much about getting it "perfect" as the difference is really minute. if longevity is the main concern, getting BG70 at around 22-23lbs will be quite sufficient for an intermediate player.

think he will be so happy and moved when he received a brand new racket as a present from his son, the string tension will be the last thing in his mind.

and oh, he has the same birthday as my son Brandon and another unnamed BC member... ;) July 16th

BG65 are the one of the worst strings that hold tension. NBG95 has good power and last long.

WRONG. Ask the stringer to prestretch it, once the BG65 loses its 2lbs ish it will last an eternity for most people./

Agreed! My new stringer doesnt know how to prestretch strings so i strung my racquet 2 lbs higher. Been using Bg-65 for 2 months now.

It will still lose a lot of tension even with pre-stretching

The BG65Ti does have good durability but doesn't have the best durability.

huh...bg65 barely loses any tension after it does the 2lb drop. so string 2lb higher and it will last FOREVERRRR

Yes, that's correct :D. Always do a 10% to 15% pre-stretch on BG-65. And String It Tight (SIT)!!! 33 lbs is a good start ;):p:D:cool::eek:

That is TIGHT PETER! I agree, BG65 and BG70PRO are both very durable strings. Either one should last you for quite a while.

How long do you want to keep the strings ? 1 year, 2 years ??

BG80 @ 25# on Cab 30ms and MS29 since October, 2007 and still going strong with a slight lost of tension, now about 23#. Play about 3 hours a weekk every week since October 2007, about time to cut it and restring just to get a fresh batch on the racket.

NBG 95 on 900P since April, 2008 @25#, still tight and good
BUT NBG95 @25# on my 900T strung 1 week ago feels fresher and crisper.

it also depends on the tension of your string. i think my bg65 is at 19lb and still using for about 15months now. on my other racket i have a bg70-pro at 22lb. well see how long this one last. been 2 months.

You can try stringing your racket with BG65, BG65ti, BG70pro or NBG95
