Hi, I wasn't sure if this should go on in this part of the forum or in some of the equipment sections, but as I think it's probably something to do with my technique I thought this would be the best place for it. The problem is that I keep breaking my racket strings, at least once a month at the moment. I play about 6 hours a week at university with 21pounds of tension which is similar to most of the other people at club, but they rarely break there's at all. It can't be anything to do with my equipment because it happens on both my rackets (different makes) and with different strings and tensions. Am I doing anything wrong?
At 21lbs you shouldn't be breaking strings in a month. It is most likely you are mainly not hitting the sweetspot meaning you mishit quite a lot. I also noticed in your profile you use plastic shuttlecocks. Plastic shuttlecocks are known to wear out the string faster than feather.
Most possible reason is because of the spoilt grommets, get your stringer to change the grommets. spoiled grommets will cut the strings
hope NGP will not notice this thread............. as phandrew said, most likely using plastic shuttle is the cause. 1. mis-hit 2. poor stringer 3. damaged grommets may we know what type of string that you use?
I thought it might be something to do with the racket at first, but my main one is only 6 months old and it happens when I switch to my back-up one as well. Also, I've used two different stringers with the same result. The strings I use are usually Yonex BG-65, but I imagine it is something to do with me missing the sweet spot a lot. How could I improve that?
Probably caused by the rubbing of the strings on the floor when you pick up the shuttle. Is the paintwork worn out at the top of the racket?
You need to identify which spot you always break your string. If always on the side or near the top, mostly it's damaged gromments and/or mis-hit. If always at the sweet spot, then simply could be your have powerful strokes and/or use slices.
Exactly like other Greatest GrandMasters have said, you have to identify the spot where the string breaks. And check the grommets thoroughly and watch how the string strings your racquet. If the stringer uses a sharp awl to poke in and out of the grommet, you better string yourself .
Spot? What spot? GGGGGGGG I wonder what spot is it? Just like Peter the Greatest said, check your racquet before you walk out of the shop. Also, Check if the string has burn mark too.
once a month is not alot, i rememeber i break once a week, becos my tension is up to 27lbs. i think u did not hit on the rite spot, or u slice too much. Open up the racket face when u hit, feel the diff impact between slice an direct impact.
when you string BG80 or Bg85, they have rough surface. When a stringer pull too fast, the friction will cause burn mark on the outside jacket. when that happen, the string is not as durable as it should be. And no, I am not talking about the GE sting between your crack...
