2nd doubles starting. JUDITH MEULENDIJKS, KARINA DE WIT vs. LEE HYO JUNG, HWANG YU MI

both pairs are relatively unknown. the Korean pair however, was the pair that beat ZhangZW and Wei Yili during the group match. they bound to be in high spirit.

doesn't look too good for Netherlands. but IMHO, Netherlands has come a long way. going from relatively no name, now they are the top of their group, beating Indonesia and Denmark.

aikes. too much talking. Korea is up 4-1 on the first set already.

i think i am going to bed. still need to go to work tomorrow. good night everybody.

Good night, Kwun. I'm going out to lunch soon... ;)

I think Korea will win. The Netherlands are fielding two mediocre singles players against a fair Korean doubles pair... I just don't see the logic in it. It's a pity really, The Netherlands have performed extremely well during this UC, and a final spot would certainly have been a nice fuel injection to European badminton...

But in all fairness, Korea has the better team! ;)

However, the real losers are of course Denmark. Who would have thought they'd end up last in their group? They were weakened in the singles by not having Mette Sørensen to play for 2nd singles, but their doubles have been catastrophic as well... It seems that the recent repairing took two strong and two weak pairs and produced four weak ones! If only Helene Kirkegaard hadn't quit... Rikke Olsen is their best player but she needs a good partner. It will be interesting to see how she will fare with the Dutch Lotte Jonathens in the future...

my guess is that Netherlands just don't have enough doubles players. look at their #1 pair, Mia is a singles players as well. but she performed very well in doubles.

as for their strategy, i think Netherlands is banking on Mia to win both singles and doubles, which she did, and then either Brenda and Judith to win one of the singles. they did ok, but too much unforced errors. so at the end, they didn't get the point.

as for #2 doubles. Netherlands just had to play whoever they have, IMHO. they know that Korea isn't going to come out weak, as they are traditionally a strong doubles team after all.

but yes. kudos to Netherlands. they have done very well indeed.

game 3 now. Korea won first two games, 7/5 7/0. Netherlands leading game 3 at 4/2.

this time for real, i am going to hit the sack.

    that's it. Korea won 3rd singles, 7/5 7/0 8/6.

beating Netherlands 3-2 in the semi-final. Korea will advance to the Uber Cup finals. they will face either China or Hong Kong. the China vs. Hongkong semi-final will be played in around 2 hours' time.

good night everybody. (*cough*, this time for *real*)

I've watched the five games and I've a feel that Korea will win this semi-final, even though these were really tough matches.

For final, even though I support my home SAR (HK is part of China, so I shouldn't call it a country) and I like Wang Chen as well, I don't think they have any chance to win China this evening. :(
