I often plays doubles and go for offensive & fast smashing style. Currently using Apacs VH 1800 strung with BG66 at 25lbs. This give me a good feeling of power while smashing but the problems were... - I can't get a good 'bounce' whenever I tried to do a back-hand clearance from a smash - Thus, I can't get a good height for my clearance - Another problem was the 'feel' for my drop-shot as it's just too weak for me to sense how long should my swing towards the drop-shot Thus, any advice for me? I was thinking to get BG80 at 24/26lbs and hopefully it will address the above-mentioned 2 issues but still give me the sense of power smashing...
:crying: thought of that as well; that's may be my technique problem... but my friend have recommended me to try out BG80 since that string have more 'bounce' factor than BG66... that's why want to seek advice / share of experience here...
If you want more bounce, lower your tension, so you get more trampoline effect. Also, BG80 wouldn't help much because it feels even stiffer than normal strings.
That's right. Less tension=More repulsion. A BG80 at 25lbs won't have as much repulsion power as the BG66. If you want more repulsion string it at 22-23lbs (or wait till the tension goes down naturally.)
Well more like at less tension, the strings do most of the work, high tensions, you have to provide the power to make the strings work (in which case, greater reward, but more demanding).
It can be either your technique that you aren't hitting the sweetspot or the tension is too high for you.
thanks for the advices, guys. need to re-check my string tension again as it was newly strung and i have been playing with 25-26 lbs for years already. it's most likely my technique of not able to hit the sweetspot and generate much power at my return backhand clearance... back to more training for me...
Haha, I've never been able to clear full court with my backhand. With low tensions or high tensions, it doesn't make much of a difference because my technique has been obviously incorrect. However with higher tensions, my backhand smashes ( both straight and crosscourt ), and my backhand drops are much faster and more precise. I reccomend you to just keep practising, it doesn't take too long to learn how to clear with your backhand . I have two friends who learned how to clear full court with their backhand in less than a month after practising.
