Actually I mean how to spin the shuttle so that it hits
the floor pretty fast. The one guy I saw could do it,
although he aimed in the one direction and just spun
it to the other and his opponent was messed.
I don't really know about spinning, any helps would
be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do you mean 'slicing the shuttle'?

Yeah, sorry, I mean slicing. I play squash and we call it spinning.
Thanks for the reminder.

The forehand slice is much easier intially. Hold the racquet in a slight eastern grip.
throw the racquet head up to meet the shuttle in a direction that goes out and forward about 45 degrees direction.
Strike the shuttle slightly to the right above your shoulder.
Continue you followthrough like an arc similar to the tennis swing serve.

Hey, Cheung thanks a lot. It really helped. I could already kinda do this one though, no offense intended. But how do you do the other ones? The one guy said u have to like hit it with the otherside of the racket while doing a forehand. Is that right?
Thanks

hmm, i don;t think I can help you with a reverse slice description. It's a difficult shot to perform and describe and very technical. Best to find the person who can do it and ask them to show you.
One of the prerequistes is to hold the racquet in the fingers for extra range of movement.

Spinning a shuttlecock in badminton doesn't have much effect on it's speed/direction etc. All that slicing, reverse slicing acts more as a deception move to your opponent. A slice, similiar when you cut an apple, for a right hander would look like a smash to your opponent, but will actually push the shuttle right. A reverse slice, is harder. You would actually try to make a rainbow using your wrist, and angle it a little left. To the opponent, this would look like a lob to the back of the court, but the shuttle would actually land straight in front of them.

Re: Reverse Spin
Isn't the direction of the spin of a feathered shuttle determined by the overlapping arrangement of the feathers? Even if you imparted an initial reverse spin, wouldn't it correct itself in flight back to normal rotation because of the aerodynamics involved?

That might be partly true but then again, left-handers can do slice shots pretty effectively in badminton.

Do you mean curving/slicing/cutting a serve? If i understand the term curving correct, I regard it a great help when serving short double bh. if you point the cock towards the frame and then hit it in a "digging" motion (difficult to describe, sorry!) the trajectory be changed in midair - resulting in a flatter, shorter serve. And before you can think Sidek, i turn any objections down! You dont hit the feathers first, only the tip!
this post may be off subject if i misunderstood the term curving......
well, i'll take a longshot/clear...

say Im on my left serving obviously to my right.
Im right handed so my racket is in mid court.
I drop the shuttleand cut at itwith the racket going towards the floor and myself.
the shuttle heads left and once over the net starts curving right .
I tried a diagram but I didnt work

Sounds as a fh serve, right?
Do you hit the feathers when serving - causing the shuttlecock to change direction, tumble, "act crazy", then you use some kind of Sidek serve. Illigal, sorry.
Otherwise, congratulations. great serve you have developed. Have s'one look at it just to be sure
