lets say you're playing doubles and your partner sends a clear that's high but a little short of reaching the back courts. you and your partner stand side by side, while the other team has a guy in front and one ready to smash. if you want to hit the birdie really far back on the receive, how do you hold your racquet to prepare for it? i'm having a hardtime using the power from back hand on receives and i try to compensate by holding the racquet in backhand position with my thumb ready to push. but this leaves me vulnerable in the forehand. how do i deal with this?
make sure don't grip your racket too tight because you can't move the racket as easy when you grip on the racket is loose.
thx for your response, but i'm still not clear how my grip shoudl be. should i have two different grips, one for forehand and one for backhand smash return? if so, when im getting ready to receive, shoudl i be ready in a neutral grip position and then change to forehand or backhand? Or should i use backhand all the time and use it to receive the bird even when the shot is to my forehand?
Try using a neutral grip so that your racket is point in front of you then change grip according to where the shuttlecock is.
good footwork ... need to be in play too ... with out good footwork ... what post you do also useless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFITT_uSXgc look at this ... footwork rules...
Hold your racket slightly up, don't let it drop by your side. Stand with your right foot up front, by a little ( right handed, ) then your basically prepared for a smash! ANY smash!
most key principal is to try to receive or counter all smashes in front of your body, you got this, then you know how to do the rest
