Been given this option as a birthday gift :), I've decided more or less on these two. AT 700 or MP 99. (3u)

I like smashing, currently using AT 250. I play more doubles than singles because of club player/couts ratio.

    My question is:
    1. which one is more robust at 24lbs? Fragile frame? People say the MP tends to be weak, is that true?

I really don't want to ruin such a good racket in a nasty clash, so I don't plan to use these for doubles, not with beginners anyway. However, I do sometimes hit the shuttle on the frame, especially the first few times after changing rackets. would that be a problem?

    2. which is better for singles? I know AT700 is great for double's smashes, yet in singles there are less smash and more clear, drop and drive. which one should I choose?

    3. any difference between at 700 and limited?

This should be in the racket comparison section not here. Have you considered other brands like SOTX and RSL? Woven 7 would be better and cheaper than your options. Out of the 2 you want i say go with AT700.

I would say AT700. Hey, AT700 is great for singles too.
Its kinda hard to find a MP99 now anyways.

i dont think the mp has a weaker frame, correct me if im wrong here.

choosing either racket for singles depends on your physical situation. for some swinging a headheavy at700 may require much more effort compared to the mp99, but then that is pretty subjective. so if you're strong and can handle it, at700 is the way to go, otherwise mp99 is a pretty attractive racket as well.

the olympics version of the at700 is just another paint job i think, not 100% sure on that

here in UK, it's still ok to find an MP99, around 80 pounds. AT is about 90, so not much of a price difference.

I'd go with the AT 700. It will be a very powerful racket if you can use it.

so most of the guys here suggest AT700 over MP99 then. :)
I'd use AT700 for singles and AT 250 with doubles (same string, tension, grip). Hope it's not too much of a switch in between.

    Thanks a lot.

Armortec series is Yonex's best series. :)

Why not go with an Armortec 500 if you're going to play singles and doubles. That racket is great for both. :) I used two and I broke two. Now I'm more into singles so I moved on from the AT 500.

I own a MP99 while my friend owns the AT700, so I have tried both. For sure the Mp99 has a stronger frame than the At700. They are actually very different rackets. Mp99 has a shorter shaft, so it requires more power, it is also more evenly weight distributed and feels heavier overall compared to the AT 700. The 99 takes a lot of time to get use to, it is not like other rackets. What I found eventually was that it was not the racket for me and I now use a Ti-10.

At700 is very head heavy, tires your arm out more if you are not use to it. Some prefer the 700, some like the 99. To me they are different rackets. The bottom line is you should test them out a bit before you buy. But in your situation since you use an AT250 right now, I think the best transition would be to the AT 700, since overall it has the same feel, but is just more head heavy. Good luck.

wow, very informative. thanks a lot.

however, I cannot seem to find a local retailer or a friend with these two rackets.

Central spors will do at700 for 95.99, and if you buy some graps and bump up the price to 100, the second at700 will be 71, good deal, 6 graps, 2 at700 for 175

If that is 175pounds then that is expensive in my terms since you can buy the AT700 online for $109USD(TH coded).
