    Question World ranking

    The system looks rather complicated.
Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard Hansen is the new no 1 for mens doubles despite their defeat to Chandra-Sigit in TC semis.
Chan-Chew also suffered one loss in TC to the similar Indonesian pair, but surprisingly the Danes raked enough points to overtake them by more than 20 points.

    Can someone please explain?

Actually, I think the Danes were well ahead (in terms of ranking points) of Candra/Sigit even before the TC. And mind you -- the Danes still suffer from a "threshold" reduction: they have only participated in 7 events, but accumulated points are divided by a minimum of 8 according to the ranking rules... Another pair that also suffers greatly from this type of point reduction is Kim/Ha, as they have only competed in 6 events.

Also, one has to consider the "aging principle": old points are worth less than new points. The Danes are a new pair, so all their gathered points are "fresh". Both Candra/Sigit and Chan/Chew are old combos, so there could have been some reduction.

I don't remember the Danes previous ranking, but I think they beat a couple of higher ranked pairs during the TC, and that would have given them bonus points. (So did Candra/Sigit, but apparently that didn't earn them enough to take them all the way to the top).

    It's complex alright...

If you're curious about exactly how the ranking is calculated, take a look here.

I didn't know that TC and UC results count in the world ranking also. Amazing.
