it is Aug 2nd, 2008. the 2008 Olympics badminton events are scheduled to start in a

    7 days

i can totally see the build up before the biggest badminton spectacle in 4 years.

a week before the first rally starts, we already have 7,000 posts in the Olympics forum. the forum filled with info, predictions, photos, and little disagreement has already sprouted.

let's all countdown to the start of the first match. i personally cannot wait for it to start. and i am sure i will be sad to see it finish. 4 years is a long long wait.

kwun, are we gonna do another, one last server reset before the opening bell??...tomorrow (Sunday) might not be a bad idea...;)

i think we are ok in terms of current stability. might not be a bad idea to do a dry reboot run in case we do need to reboot.

i recently did some more optimization of the server. after which i did some stress testing with a robot inserting 10+ posts/sec into the server while another bot reading dozens of posts/sec at the same time. during which, i tried surfing BC and there was zero noticable slowdown.

so i think we should be good. the server will get stressed but the server is prepared for it.

    Hmm..

..did that occur during the Thomas & Uber Cup tourney??...where we had that record no. of users at one time, nearly 3,000 users??.. ;)

okay, sounds good. if, in case, we do crash the server, then we just have to point our fingers to the Olympics...;)

The only thing on steroids this OG will, hopefully but highly unlikely, be the BC server. Roll out this bulked up baby.

this shows how much BC has grown. 4 years ago for Athens, we have around 8,500 posts total in the Olympics forum. for Beijing, we might reach 8,500 posts even before any rally starts.

i am stocking up on late night snacks. things i have so far are: Vita Lemon tea, dried mango, smoked salmon, Pretz sticks, dried squid. very random, i know. :) got any suggestions?

been following the Reuter videos. they have video updates of the pollution situation in Beijing. so far, there are some days of clear skies. which is encouraging.

not that it affects badminton, but in general, it is good to have good weather so journalists will focus on reporting real olympics events than all trying to be weather-reporter wannabes.
