I had written a similar thread last year when they won the World Championships. Note that they won it on 19th August 2007, while they won the Olympics Gold Medal on 16th August 2008!

Here's what our BC forumer ye333 wrote about them for the outlook of 2008:
    08奥运,夺冠概率我认为马亨最大,古陈风云钟李差不多。其他组合碰上这几对的任何一对都是下风球,但是想 夺冠至少要灭其中两个,因此没有什么希望。从过往奥运看,男双冠军都是实至名归(92朴/金,96苏/迈,00陈/吴,04金/河),从无意外出现。

    My translation:
I personally think that the chance of Kido/Hendra winning the Gold in the Olympics is the highest (that's a real compliment coming from a Chinese). Other pairs will be at a disadvantage when they meet these 4 pairs, since they would have to beat at least two of them to have any chance of a medal, so, not much hope for them. From the previous Olympics, the Gold-Medallists usually are worthy winners (92: Park/Kim; 96: Ricky/Rexy; 00: Tony/Candra; 04: Ha/Kim); there are usually no surprise winners

    ye333's other comments:
MK/HS are fine as long as their friends from Japan and Taiwan help them. :D

About their 3 losses to Cai/Fu. One is a group stage match in the invitational worldcup, another is a team match in group stage in AG, only the last one is a formal individual event, and there are controversies about that one. ;) Their two wins (06CO, 07HKO) are very convincing, total domination. I will bet on MK/HS if they meet Cai/Fu.

I am really quite amazed that his prediction on Kido/Hendra has really been accurate so far, including his analysis on Kido/Hendra's recent losses to Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae (considered the biggest threat to the Gold Medal, thankfully, they were bundled out in the first round )

I'd love to see a Kido/Hendra vs JJS/LYD finals. CY/FHF played a great game1 but simply lost focus on the subsequent games. At least they put up quite a fight in the later part of game3.

Kido/Hendra certainly deserved the OG gold :). Congrats to Indonesia!!

Honestly, once you know how to play against Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun, they will crumble naturally. In the last 2 matches that the INA pair beat Fu/Cai (ignore the first set of the FINAL), the scores were ridiculously "not tight":
    Hong Kong Open SEMI-FINAL: 21-15, 21-12
    Beijing Olympics FINAL: 11-21, 21-12, 21-16.

BUT, things might be different if they face Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae. Lee Yong Dae's brilliance at the net is something that even Hendra Setiawan struggled to match in recent matches :cool:

I will look forward to their next encounter. Hopefully, Kido/Hendra can beat Jung/Lee next time!

MK / HS: The Badminton Mens Doubles Olympic Champions @ Beijing 2008

    .
I was predicting JJS / LYD (KOR) to win the Mens Doubles Gold medals. But when JJS / LYD was defeated by LP / JR (DEN), and MK / HS defeated LP / JR 21/19, 21/17 in the Semi-Finals, I guessed that MK / HS could win the GOLD.

Congratulations to MK / HS for becoming the Badminton Mens Doubles Olympic Champions @ Beijing 2008 !!!

    :):):)

Very well done indeed. Indonesia has proven themselves to the world that they are still one of the strongest badminton powerhouse on earth. With result, not trash talk :D

Congrats, MK/HS!!! I was so happy for them i was waiting for the INA national anthem to be played and the transmission got cut off! Is there any way to get compensation for incomplete programming?
INA MD's victory indicates that MK/HS will beat FU/CAI under clean conditions and lose under unsavoury conditions.Note this as a PAWing tip.
BTW, is INA going to send JR/LP a thank you note, for shooing off JJS/LYD?
And pls don't be greedy. Share the golds.LYD's gonna be so hungry for the XD gold INA won't have a chance. But INA can take the bronze.
