hate to say it, but i have to agree with pemuda on this one.
it's not that i'm not a fan of LCW, i'm a big fan actually, but giving him Datukship now is kinda premature.
i would feel differently if he were to win MAS's first olympic gold, that person ought to get Datukship for sure.

Buying a title is meaningless.
But to have earned it through hardwork, dedication and sacrifice is to be applauded. Bravo Lee Chong Wei.
I despair at the cynical outlook by some of the nerds....oh well, to each his own.

I watch in absolute horror and apprehension as our sportsman Chong Wei becomes a Datuk.
I wasn't old enough to witness the 1992 TC finals, but I remember the winning team was awarded land, money, and titles (Datukships). This caused the Malaysian badminton to regress almost 10 years as we got tamely eliminated in 1994. Our badminton team took years to recover.
Although I hope that this will not be the case for Lee, I can't help but disagree with the move to award sportsmen Datukship before their careers are over. I have no problem with giving titles to sportsmen to honor their career or achievements, but not when they are still at their prime, and still playing for the country. Datukships should be awarded after someone has finished serving the country, not after they win, no, lagi best, come second in every major tournament.
Plus, I watch in absolute disgust and revulsion as Lee's silver medal is paraded around Malaysia as political fodder. Ptui!
PS: You guys should already know how much of a Malaysia Boleh fan I am, and how much I adore and support Chong Wei.Last edited by vching; 08-20-2008 at 06:40 AM.

I agree with the bolded part. And this Datukship thing is connected to current political currents. The RM300,000 is being presented tonight in Penang, very fast, they just came back yesterday. A case of one upmanship - you give, I give also. Cannot say more, sensitive issue.
In any case, I think LCW is smart enuf to see it. If he's so blur not to notice, Misbun will make sure he knows. LCW cannot stop them from giving him the title, but he can choose not to be affected by it & continue to be grounded.

I hope he stays grounded, I really hope he is.
Lee can stop them from giving him the Datukship by rejecting it. Ironically, it is the DAP members that have rejected the titles in the past. I am a DAP supporter myself, but I complete disagree with this move. Hopefully it is not a political move lah, and it is the Penang Yang Dipertuan Negeri (head of state) that awarded this award and not YB Guan Eng. From YB Kit Siang's blog I suspect its the Yang Dipertuan Negeri that awarded the title.

Can i ask?
Of all those titles: Datuk/Datin, Datuk Seri, Tan Sri, Pun Sri or Tun;
which one has the highest honor?

yeah, I know, he can reject it. He just found out, still very surprised. Errrrrrr, only the head of state can give title mah, LGEng cannot do that but he was the one who made the announcement as the Chief Minister.
Title Datuk dont have much meaning nowadays, Nicol David also prefer ppl call her by name, so weird to be called Datuk so young. Datuk LCW, RLOL.
