I'm sitting here on an overnight shift at a maternity hospital......and nothing is going on. In boredom my mind has turned to pregnancy and badminton.

How far in gestation do ladies play badminton (nonprofessionals, I mean)? How soon postpartum do they return? How embarassing is it to lose to a pregnant woman? Or how great to win, pregnant? (the ultimate 'doubles' team:))
    Any stories?

sorry....Post partum means after you've had the kid.
Silly thread I realize. But I have seen a few quite pregnant women bashing birdies around before. How would you dare smash against them?
    (oops, there's the pager...'bye)

My friend's wife is expecting and she was playing past 6 months.

Everyone on the court (and wandering too close court) is fair game :)
When I'm an old fogey and they're 20, I won't expect them to back off their smashes.

Midwives do say those who are/have been physically active have shorter labours..

Post partum - are there any guidelines?

Chinese, culturally, back off from exerting themselves unduly during the pregnancy.

I don't know if anyone else remembers, but Jo Goode (I think now Jo Nicholas), an ENG player who won Bronze with Simon Archer in 2000 OG played in 2002 Commonwelath games and i remember she was 20 weeks maybe more pregnant.

Thanks guys. Those are good stories to read after a sleepless night.
No matter how tough guys think we are, just watching the miracle of pregnancy and child birth makes one realize we've got nothing on women when it comes to fortitude.

Ph_leung: exactly how far from your court does one need to be to avoid being targeted by your poweful un-fogey-like smash? 1 metre? 1 Km?:D

Cheung: one answer to your guideline question is here: http://www.sogc.org/guidelines/public/129E-JCPG-June2003.pdf
(a lot of words to say 'everything in moderation')

twobeer: which is the more fearsomely cranky badminton opponent? A female Pregosaurus or a male Beerallgoneadon?
