I am looking for a drop weight stringing machine. I have never strung before so it will be my first one. But I intend to keep this machine for long. I don't need fancy stuff. * Need 6 point support because I string starting at 23x25 lbs. I may try higher in the near future. * Need drop weight because I believe they are the most consistent and need less calibration over time. My budget is $200 US. But if there is a good one I might spend more. I know it is not much, but I am not necessarily looking for a brand new machine. Something that is NOT broken and gets the job done will do. I don't care if it has a few scratches here and there. Show me what you got.
Gamma is great! http://www.atssports.com/tennis.cfm?prodid=266 http://www.atssports.com/tennis.cfm?prodid=270 http://www.atssports.com/tennis.cfm?prodid=638 Silent Partner is fine. http://www.sptennis.com/stringer.asp#HipHop You might want to change the original fix clamp system to the Maestro's or Opus's. Also ask for badminton shoulder supports and badminton fixed clamps.
I haven't tried Mutual Power yet. Hercules 690 has single hand operation. Again, ask for badminton fixed clamps and better fixed clamp system (the cone and base) like the Atlas 9600 (if it fits on the Hercules 690). http://www.mutualpower.net/sm.htm
Thank you for all the advice Pete. The Silent Partner Hip Hop is definitely a candidate. The MP Hercules 690 looks very similar too. But like I mentioned, my budget is a little low right now ($200). Maybe $300 max. But I do have to spend some on flying clamps, fixed clamps and such..
Here is the kicker. You can saw off the ends of the turntable (search for DinkALot's machine modification) and move the tensioner much closer (ask Kwun for photos). Bear in mind that moving the tensioner closer to the turntable requires you to keep the angle between the edge of the support column and the edge of the rotary tensioner constant. Ok, it calls for a new thread in the stringing forum. Will post more tonight.
