Hi, I've just ordered BG80 at 21lbs for my AT500, I always played BG65 at 20lbs but didn't liked to bad tension hold and not a lot repulsion. The guy told me that BG80 doesn't hold tension well like BG65, so I'm thinking to change it to 22lbs, is it true? How did your tension holded for BG80?
BG65 is the string with the most tension loss. BG80 should be strung 2lbs lower than BG65 to get the same performance. read DinkALot's Badminton String Review to get an idea on the holding tension of each string.
BG80 thumbs up ! 21-22lbs would be just fine ! would drop 2-3lbs max after a month's playing. Apply wax onto the string, so it wont wears so quickly.
I highly doubt what the 'guy' says.BG65 loses tension very fast.If you're using BG65 i recommend you to string it to a slightly higher tension(if that's what you're comfortable with).
Applying wax on strings is a bad idea because the wax will make the string/shuttle contact bond less than tight. In fact the shuttle will slip each time it is hit. It is like a player with very poor hitting technique that results in most of the power being lost when hitting a shot. You are losing traction/friction by presenting your stringbed as a slippery floor for the shuttle.
I have same ideas/opinions as yours. I don't apply wax onto my rackets as it would mess up on the grommets and more maintenances on stringing machine. String without wax would performs well for control. With wax, could feel abit funny when slicing / playing net. I'd apply wax with customer's request, they'd say string would last longer.
In my experience the Vectran strings (BG-80 and -85) stretch much less during pre-stretching and definitely keep tension better than the Ti strings (and arguably better than the Nanogies as well). [It also depends, of course, on what practises your stringer uses (pre-stretching, constant pull vs. lockout machine, pattern, how good they are at knotting, etc), but if you use the same stringer your BG-80 will feel fresher for longer.]
IMO,BG80 doesnt hold tension really well.It tends to drop preety fast than the others. It'll work great at 30lbs i guess.Last time i string my at700 at 28lbs,n it drops to 24-25lbs already. No signs of wearing.Guess this string last preety long.
Hi I was just wondering, would BG80 lose 2 or so pounds in tension, or does it continue to lose tension the longer you play? Also, I was wondering if the same applies to BG85 if it loses just 2 or more pounds or continue losing tension like crazy.
the tension depends from person to person. Some might find 24lbs too tight and some might find it too low.
