Default Question on "Strings @ rose" for HK people.and colour question for rest of the world.

I'm going to have someone in HK purchase strings for me... well I did a search using search function and turns out Rose was the closest to where they live... I just had a few questions... if anyone knows or can find out without too much trouble.... that would be great!

    Strings:

    BG-85
    BG-80
    BG-68 ti
    BG-66

What colour do these strings come in? (I'm looking for black/blue/red/yellow.. are these colours available for all the above listed strings at Rose?

The price for a pack is about $3x HKD am I correct?

    --------------------------------------------

    Question for everyone else!

I've heard from some people that some strings will perform differently in different colours... is this true? If so what colour(s) for what string do you recommend!?

Colours - don't know of availability. They do play differently. I only use the natural colour strings
Price - somewhere around that price
Buying strings - some shops may not want to sell individual packs at that price. i.e. they charge xxdollars for the complete package of string and restringing fee. The price would be the same if you just bought the string. specialist badminton shops will not do this.
durability - BG 65 > Bg 80 > BG 85. depending on your play. Look up 'Bg 80' and 'Bg85' in eqpt forum using search function. I wrote on this issue.

Emmy is only 5 mins walk away from rose! (down the street). Go a bit further and there is another badminton shop on the 1st flr (2nd if you're from Canada) next to Sin Tat plaza.

Oh....... which stores do sell individual packets at around 30 something dollars?

Well... right now.. I plan on buying about 10 packs.. for me and friend...... maybe more if I come across someone I know that wants to buy string....
Do you think the store will let me buy individual packets at that price if I purchase 10 packs? Or do I need to buy more?

About shops.... which shop do you recommend?? I think I read some threads a while back that mentioning your name or ricky's name could get discount?
Probably won't get much discount on strings anyways.....

About colours... I've heard yellow BG-80 feels really nice.... theres some colours combined with string type that makes the string feel slippery someone told me..

Well, Luxis and Emmy are specialist shops so you could get the strings per pkt from these shops.

Rose, I'm not sure. Occasionally I pop through out of curiosity but never buy anything. It's not a specialist badminton shop (though they do have some interesting stuff sometimes). You just need to ask.

10 sets of strings is pretty OK. Sure you don't want to get more?

Don't expect a great variety of string colours. I get the impression string colour seems to be a lot more important to people in N America than in Asia so I think if you really want a specific colour, be prepared that it might be difficult.

regarding the colour issue and playability. I didn't really like BG85 in purple. Can't put my finger on why that is so.
For BG 65 I like natural colour. Also light green and white (which don't seem to be around in HK, though I never specifically go asking for those colours)

    Cheung, i agree!

and for some reason, a period in time in HK, all the shops had was purple bg85!

to me, it feels more numb and slippery, doesn't have that bg85 crispier feel.

Try Luxis. Yes, I imagine the amount of any discount would be quite small.

The strings are actually distributed from M'sia. And if you think M'sia should be cheaper than HK, the difference is actually only rather marginal for us consumers. (yes i have checked it out!).

Exceptions are those strings directly imported from Japan.

I have used BG-65 both of the white variant and the purple variant. I felt no difference at all. My personal belief is that any such differences noticed by others is due to string aging. Perhaps the purple variant is less popular, and therefore will lie longer in the shop... Strings should have a "best before" date!

Any difference of feel due to color is a placebo effet. I agreed with Mag, a best before date is applicable even for nylon strings. However, experienced eyes can tell the approximate years when the string was made.

I felt that the black BG65 (used that many years ago was little more 'brittle'). It broke faster!

will the dye affect the friction on the string?

I see..... so how many years until plastic strings expire? Maybe I'll get 15-20 packs.. I'm buying for someone too... and maybe more people.. but if I get about 12 packs for myself that should last me at least 2 years I'd think...

What price would I be expecting? On luxissportnet they sell packs for 100 HKD!

From the search I did on strings.... Vincent Ting's posts said BG-65 goes for $21 and the rest of the higher end strings go for about $30.... if that's the price I'll probably get myself a few packs of BG-65 ... and maybe a few packs of 80 and 85s.. I've never tried 85 but I like bg-80....

Is that so? Get your friend to ask Luxis in person and say how many pkts he wants to buy.

Have you considered buying by the 100 meters reel? Should be cheaper if you divide by 10. Luxis advertise them in their web site.

The price on the BG-85 was HK$30 at Emmys. If money is no object, you should go for the CBG-100. Holds tension MUCH better than BG-85.

For CBG-100, try Jumpsmash in Houston. They sell for US$16, which is actually cheaper that HK prices! I don't know how long they will last, since I only had them for 3 months. They still look and feel brand new, and I smash pretty hard.
