This is aimed at you guys who are currently residing in Malaysia..I'm Malaysian and I read Star online which mentioned about Mahathir's dramatic resignation and subsequently his withdrawal of that resignation. Can you guys in M'sia give us (especially malaysians abroad) a bit more details and local opinion on what's going on back home, in regard to this matter? Cheers
He was going to resign, then they changed his mind. But his still resigning next year. Don't know what's gonna happen to Malaysia after that.
The next general election is gonna be the most exciting ever in Malaysian history. With Mahathir stepping down and may not be defending his seat, all eyes will be looking at whether the opposition is capable of seizing such opportunity in wresting the governance of Malaysia. Malaysian's future is at stake!
Yep! What happens if PAS takes over? This may sound silly but what if all the ladies have to wear tudungs?
*faint* No way! Then I'll definitely don't want to go back! Hey Joanne, imagine if all the guys, Islamic or not, have to 'sunat'!! That would be fun then won't it? *grins* A
Re: *faint* That's easy for you to say, you're not here right now. My parents were talking about migrating to either Australia or New Zealand in the future if PAS takes over. You know they made the rule in Terengganu that if you steal, they cut of your hands and things like that. ~Joanne
For theft cases, it's quite fair to have their hands cut-off. But how about **** cases??? Well, have an insight of what Hudud law is all about: The below mail content was forwarded by my friend about a month ago. ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Monday, July 15, 2002 6:25 PM Subject: FW: Hudud Laws Recently, there are hot topics going around regarding the recent implementation of Hudud Laws in Terengganu. Besides, people losing their hands if they steal, you might want to know this... Scenario 1: A young girl walking back from her "madrasah" alone was attacked by a man and raped ...she couldn't prove that she was raped because in PAS's hudud law, there is no medical opinion and DNA testing taken into account. And of course, there were no 4 pious and religious Muslim men who witnessed her **** in that lonely , deserted street.... so she is punished with 80 lashes. (You think she could survive that, mentally after such a brutal attack was done upon her, and physically against her body? ) Scenario 2: A married woman who was coming back from a market....she gets raped, and because she was too afraid of the hudud law, because there were no 4 pious Muslim to witness her ****.. she kept silent and gave birth to a child, and accused by her husband of adultery and when she cries "****!"... it was taken as an admission to Zina, and she is tied in the middle of her kampung, and so the overzealous fanatical "orang kampung" would throw stones at her and kill her... (a recent case in Pakistan) Scenario 3: A woman raped in her house with her mother witnessing the act, but because she is not a man, she becomes a non-valid witness. Scenario 4: A daughter, raped by her father is incest. Incest, however, is a specific crime under the Syariah Criminal Code. In an unprecedented case in Kelantan recently, a 17-year-old daughter was charged for incest with her father under the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code, although it was the father who raped her. That the Syariah prosecutors regarded the girl as a willing partner in the commission of the crime and therefore an offender, rather than a victim, is totally against the grain of justice. The girl is a juvenile under the authority and control of her father. The failure of the Syariah judicial officers to understand the dynamics of power relationship led to the prosecution of a daughter, a victim of sexual abuse by the father, as if she was an equal perpetrator and willing partner in the crime. In this case, the cause of justice would have better been served if the father was charged with **** under the Penal Code where he is liable to imprisonment for not less than five years and not more than 20 years. This sentencing properly reflects the gravity of the crime committed and society's abhorrence of such a crime. However, under the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code, the person who commits incest is liable only to a fine not exceeding RM$3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both. Based on the above information taken from MSN Malaysia Forum, this could happen to any woman who is living or visiting Terengganu. Would any woman even WANT to step inside the state? I believe these laws would not help in lowering the number of **** cases in Malaysia, where 94% of rapists in Malaysia are Muslims, and 82% of these Muslims are Malays). Please share this information with all your female friends. Hopefully, we can rally against injustice done to women in Malaysia, even as we strive for a better tomorrow. PS: I welcome constructive criticism. I am not a Muslim nor a lawyer, and therefore may not have the full picture of the laws. Should you disagree or want to present your point of view, please email me. Thank you and have a nice day.
