you can copy the text from the pdf per select and ctrl+C. you don't need any software for it except for adobe reader and notepad. You can also use the "save as text" function of adobe reader.

Look, there is no direkt way to convert pdf to doc format without additional softwarte like Free PDF to Word Doc Converter, that you can download here: http://www.hellopdf.com/. But if you need only the text from the pdf-file, you can just copy it to your word-file by selecting all the text in pdf (ctrl+A), coping it to the buffer (ctrl+c) and pasting it in a new word-file (ctrl+v). Another way is to open pdf-file in adobe acrobat reader, then click on file -> save as text. And you will get an txt-file, that you can open in word.

I've used this following online PDF to Word Converter with good results. I used it for some complex government PDF forms. The logos and figures came out fine as objects inside the Word doc.

    Find it here:

    http://www.freepdfconvert.com/

click on the appropriate link on the left side for the type of MS file you want.

Like all online services that are free, nobody knows how long it will stay and stay for free, and what happens to the data they transfer. Don't send anything you would mind exposed to the public. Hmmm... don't send those private photos ;)

Can you describe what happens in more detail? I've never encountered this. Is it possible some of the original "text" in the PDF is actually an image? For example a .jpg file of text that was inserted into the PDF document. Converters won't handle this.

Let's see if we can narrow down the problem. So, when you try to click on the converted document text to try to position the cursor, what happens? e.g.
"It was a dark and stormy night." If you click on the space between "stormy" and "night, what would happen. Does the cursor appear there but you can't type anything or delete anything? Or, does the cursor not appear? If you want, you can PM me and send me a sample of a file that has this problem. (one of the original PDF and one of the Word file would be helpful).

That's fine for regular text. Maybe there's various fonts, sizes, formatting and tables involved. This is where the converter comes in handy.

Font conversion won't work unless you have that particular font installed in your computer. Which means the converted file will contain fonts that have been rasterized or vectorized. In either case, that will be useless for editing purposes.
