Just want to ask around: besides BG66, which other 0.66mm strings have you tried? And how was the performance compared to BG66? For me, I have tried powergut 66, which is comparabe in terms of repulsion, but softer sound. also i tried to string with toalson 0.66mm strings (can't remember which model), but the toalson string broke when stringing. it can't go to 27lbs.
I did try Pacific PC66 before. Kinda waste the money on that string, compare with BG66 the repulsion is not as good as bg66, it is more slipperly, softer sound and does not hold tension well.
The only string that i have used n comparable with the BG66 in terms of playability n price,Victor VH-650.NBG98 is just too expensive comparing to the BG66.Don't mention that in Japan or in the states,they costs almost the same..since i already knew.
There are thinner strings in the market place. Tactic TG-68ti=0.65mm SOTX 1040Ti=0.65mm Gosen R4X100=0.63mm Thin string plays very nice for very short time, don't expect it to last very long. Does anyone know if there is a 0.58mm string?
please check the DinkALot's string review in this forum. there are quite a few 0.66 mm strings from various suppliers.
In the last two weeks, I've tried these strings (all 0.66mm): Yonex BG-66 (from Singapore), Yonex BG-66 (from Japan) and Yonex NBG-98. I tried the three strings on two racquet models: the Yonex Ti-10 (Yellow) and the Yonex Armortec AT-900T. They were strung at 30 pounds. Overall, the NBG-98 string works best for me. On the Ti-10, the NBG-98 is very responsive - in both power and control. It allows great smashes, accurate defensive shots and and very sharp drops. With the BG-66 (Japan), the drops get even better but smashes become duller and less 'oomphy' (although still powerful)! On the AT-900T, the NBG-98 lends an almost amazing level of control (here, the racquet certainly lives up to its 'Technique' label) but, in power, it trails the BG-66 (Japan). The NBG-98 scores very high in accuracy but, for some reason, smashes fly faster off the AT-900T's racquet face when using the BG-66 (Japan). As a bonus factor, the NBG-98 retains tension really well. On both racquets, the BG-66 (Singapore) is still a great string but doesn't come across as good as its Japanese version or the NBG-98.
tried gosen 0.66mm strings before (pro66, bio roots66 and r4x200) but didnt really like the 'feel' of these strings
I think Gosen Pro66 is quite a good string. The repulsion power is as good as BG66.Durability wise,a bit less than BG66.An overall good string tho as i am using it for almost a year.
but BG66Sharp is a 0.68mm string. I have them on my Victor SW32. Responsive, powerful, but sound is softer than BG66 singapore. Accuracy i'm not so sure, cos i'm more of a smasher.
I was so surprised by your comment that I searched my trash can for the string's packaging... and I found it too. You're spot on... the BG-66 S is indeed 0.68mm I just walked in after my evening game... and, boy, I must say I stand by all the qualities I attributed to the NBG-98
After a LOT of experimentation I now use 0.66, and below, exclusively, and I find BG66 to be the best. I thought NBG98, while outrageously powerful, lacked feel and control (even at 30lbs), and the Asian Ashaway MP in 0.66 wasn't durable enough. I tried a prototype (provided by coolact) called Auspic A-66 which I thought was outstanding when freshly strung, but the "sparkle" dies off a little bit quicker than that of BG66 (and getting more sets would be horrendously expensive for me in UK). BG66 has everything I need - excellent control, excellent power and a diabolical sound. (I have since previewed a SOTX 0.65mm string for MBS which was the most powerful I've ever seen [even moreso than NBG98], but a friend snapped it after borrowing my racket and MBS has yet to put it up for sale...) Must be based on a musical motif - looking forward to BG66 flat...
Try Carlton AG63, it managed to withstand 28lbs on my Nanolite 9500. I will be trying out Victor VS-650 on my dunlop this weekend, initial feedback from others has been positive. The guy at the shop told me that it plays like BG66 but more durable.
Lol I pretty much knew that but I didn't say anything ahahha! Looks like phandrew did the work for me.
maybe i will give NBG98 a try. anyway, i got 2 rackets strungs with ML that already dropped too much tension for my liking.
