Hi, I purchased two AT700 in China from a Yonex Store in 2006. I got a discount from them, since I knew the store owner, I got them both for 1000RMB back then. Last year i had cracked my frame by just doing a smash. I only had the racket for 4 months then. And just this week, i cracked my second AT700 at the frame. Im just wondering, is it just me, or would it be a manufacturing defect? First AT700 is a BG-65Ti @ 22lbs Second is BG-85 @ 24lbs Or maybe i smash too hard? The obvious question here is: Are they the real thing? As pointed out elsewhere, China is not exactly the land of the genuine. If you could post the serials and codes, it might help. In any case, it's strange for an Armortec 700 to crack when smashing (unless you mis-hit really badly). And, it's stranger if it cracked when strung at a mere 22 to 24 pounds The AT-700 is built for smashing... and is one of the most solid racquets available. If I were you, I'd check the genuineness of my purchases

They appear to be genuine... but I could be wrong. leehsim would know, of course I'd wait for him to reply in the Serials thread.
Ah, well thanks! It should be a Genuine, since the store manager used to play Badminton for Nationals in China, and recently did the Torch relay in Guang Zhou for the 08 Olympics.
They are real AT700. I got one broke just like the 2nd one. I think it is also very close to your cone date.
I don't think it's just you! My friend had a few of his newer AT700's break in very similar areas for no apparent reason... the current AT700's quality is not as good as gen 1 Not sure about the AT700 limited though.
the 1st 1 had been clashed. 2nd 1 likely bad string job over many times u didnt even tell us 4u or not
Both rackets are 4u. First one cracked when i miss hit, but i might of clashed once or twice, but not often, since i try to keep it in good condition. It has been strung once. Second one, the string has only been strung within the last month, but also 3 months before. Both times strung by the same guy. Its only been strung 3 times.
I think most AT700 break, even my friend broke his after a month though his was Sp coded. I think its manufacture fault may be the UTi is putting too much pressure on the UHG in the frame during a smash, so when it can't handle the force of the smash it breaks or it can a mishit of the shuttle.
unfortunately armortec 700 and 900 has this weakness. ive been told so does 30 and 60. ive gone through 3 700 and 4 900p, never clashed with partner and always crack at lower part of the frame except for 1 700 that had 3 top eye for the string caved in. im not sure how or why, but with the similar shaped frame, ive used mp99 and Ti8 long, both seems to be pretty good at handling high tension and i havent had crack problem with them.
Thanks for the replies, At least now i know its not just me getting more then one AT700 with cracks. I might give the AT900p a shot, any other rackets which is similar in weight and power?
Perhaps you should contact the place where you bought the rackets, or maybe Yonex. I'm no expert at these matters but I'm guessing for two to break so close to each other and after such a short amount of time is likely to be more than coincidence. I wouldn't rule it out though, no matter how long the odds. However, I feel that perhaps the batch was faulty and if this is the case, perhaps Yonex would replace them.

Sorry for double post, The racket is now fully cracked, since i continued playing with it. so i might decide on getting a AT 900 power.

If they add 2 grams to a small part on the side of the frame...you'll have a very messed up balance. Not a good idea.
2 grams to the head area is very significant. When I want to increase the swingweight of rackets and I add copper tape to the rim, I find that 1 gram is noticeable, 2 grams is enough to have a very noticeable impact on reaction speed (like for defense). If they add the 2 grams to only one side of the racket, it would have an odd balance.
