Monday October 20, 2008 BAM plan to produce more winning mixed doubles pairs By RAJES PAUL KUALA LUMPUR: With a slowdown on the emergence of women’s doubles players, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are likely to make a bold move to bring them together with the mixed doubles shuttlers under their new coaching and training programme. The BAM want to give more priority to producing winning mixed doubles combinations in their programme geared towards the 2012 London Olympics. Currently, the only reliable women’s doubles pair are world No. 10 Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty. Unfortunately, no other pairs have stamped their mark since Eei Hui-Pei Tty made their presence felt on the international stage in 2002. It will, however, be tough to bank on Eei Hui-Pei Tty in the next Olympics. Fine combination: Chin Eei Hui (front) and Wong Pei Tty are Malaysia’s only reliable women’s pair at the moment. They could not even get the better of the emerging talent from China, Cheng Shu-Zhao Yunlei, whom they lost to in the final of the Japan Open last month. The plan is for Eei Hui and Pei Tty to join the mixed doubles department but the duo will be allowed to play in the women’s doubles event for at least another two years. With the move, the BAM will save the cost of hiring a coach solely for the women’s doubles players. When the new coaching and training set-up is announced at the end of the month, Indonesian Rexy Mainaky will assume the role of the doubles chief coach, taking charge of the men and mixed doubles players. Rexy is likely to hand over the job of grooming the mixed doubles pairs to Jeremy Gan. His other assistants are Pang Cheh Chang, Rosman Razak and Chang Kim Wai. The singles department will most likely be headed by Rashid Sidek. The other singles coaches to be part of the new programme are Misbun Sidek and Wong Tat Meng.
Just my humble opinion... Rexy already has his hands full with coaching MDs. MANY MDs. Why give him responsibility to handle XD as well? How can he focus?
Rexy is/will be chief doubles & mixed coach. He overseee all doubles dept. Now also he doesnt personally train the gals or mixed dept or the back-up MD. His assistants does that. Jeremy Gan is in charge of XD, since some time ago. WD supposed to be under Chang. Pang trained the seniors WPT/CEH for a spell before OG, also trains the younger MDs. When Rashid becomes chief singles, he oversee all singles.
rexy need to bring in young blood. What experienced XD players bam has now will likely be out of prime by 2012. Winning at OG is about skills, mental focus AND right timing. If u peak a year before or a year later, it's no good. rexy should let kkk play XD for a bit longer. Shouldn't judge base on intial result. When he get use to playing with a lady, then he won't have the bad attitude when playing MD with TBH MD becomes easy if u get accustomed to playing XD. If flandy, KDM, joobong park, jen erikson can do it, why can't kkk? If kkk is so talented as boleh fans say he is, kkk should as least do ok on this double xd and md roles. Then we would know what he's (kkk) made of.
your comment is very good imo..but after u add this sentences inside, it becomes more special and better though
kkk is welcome to prove cooler wrong tho What's bad for cooler is good for kkk and boleh fans, 3 pluses if it works out, don't u like that?
What's bad for kkk and boleh fans is good for cooler . As cooler has remarked "What's bad for cooler is good for kkk and boleh fans". The other way around is also true, "What's bad for kkk and boleh fans is good for cooler". But seriously, as Jagdpanther has put it... We might see fireworks exploding soon in this thread. But we hope it would not happen. .
no problem here if people with short fuse stay out the kitchen. I have seen enough self-exploding people in my life times ( i mean in real life)
With the exception of Park Joo Bong & Kim Dong Moon, I couldn't really recall any top 3 MD that pulled double duty and played XD as well. Maybe Jens Ericksen in late 90s, early 2000s.....Flandy is a good MD player but hardly top 3 during their time. INA and China doesn't seem willing to let their top MD pulled double duty in XD as well.
^^A bit off topic-There's one other doubles player...^^ ..(maybe not in the recent era) who was also as dominant, in his own era. As a matter of fact he is now one of the head coaches/National Training Director for the INA team... Back to the XD issue with MAS, IMO, i think the article is partly correct. And that is they have yet to find a consistent women's doubles player and men's doubles player to compliment each other.
Of course, he's probably the best ever, but the only memory I have of Christian Hadinata's play is in TC 1986.... He's pretty similar to Tony G in term of achieving glory with multitude of partners (and better to some degree, since I don't think Tony played much XD). I think that's the point though. If you have good MD and WD players, does it makes sense to impose more work by making them play XD or rather let them focus on their respective disciplines instead?
that wasn't my point. My advice for rexy was, to maximize MAL's chances in 2012, rexy should work on kkk and see how far he goes with XD combo. Ex. what if kkk/tbh ends up as QF specialists (in big tournaments)? IF he starts on kkk in xd now, BAM would have another xd pair comes 2012. Yes, it would be hard for kkk because he has to show up for 2 practisces instead of 1 that he's trying so hard already. Making kkk to play XD will force him to appreciate tbh in MD. Surely BAM would be super elated if kkk/tbh wins titles just in MD, and would drop the idea of kkk doing XD as well.
Rexy has already said to the press he wants the players (those who can play XD & doubles) to play 2 depts. It's the other way round : It used to be that they focus on 1, now they play 2 dept but are better in 1. It's not only KKK but the other players as well - Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah, Chan Peng Soon, Hoon Thien How,Chong Sook Chin, WPT, CEH. KKK used to play both MD & XD until early 2007, quite sucessful too with WPT. In 2007, the coaches decided to focus the players on 1 dept, now back to 2 dept. Now XD is a full time dept, not mix & match without training together like used to be. Msia's XD specialists are all youngsters : Razif Latif/Chong Sook Chin, LKW/NHL, TWK/WKW . The others like Chan Peng Soon, Hoon Thien How, KKK, WPT,CEH are MD/WD specialist. So, if want to say young blood, the 3 pairs are the ones, ever since they won 2007 Asia & World Juniors in XD. Just that they are not experienced enuf yet to stamp their mark, I suppose that's why Rexy/Jeremy split LKW & NHL temporarily & pair them with seniors. Razif started off as doing well in MD, then XD, now it looks like he'll focus more on MD, less on XD. The gals : CSC, NHL, WKW do better in XD rather than WD, their WD partnership changes according to who goes for the tourney.
Don't worry 'bout me. Thanks to my current research, I can stand heat unacceptable to other people. Funny thing. Talking 'bout heat, an equipment in my research produced higher heat than usual. My professor said, "Check the equipment first. If nothing wrong with it, then you are at fault. If the heat source is indeed the troublemaker, kick it outta the lab." Koo sumthin...
if i'm the professor, i would fail on the spot. The equipment is ok and the fault is so obvious Majority of fire accidents are cause by HUMAN ERROR, don't blame the equipement.
Thanks God you're not my professor. Instead of becoming Mr. Know-It-All who's quick to judge, "Nah, the equipment is OK and the fault is obvious" simply by reading my report through e-mail, he did check it by himself, and indeed the problem lies within the energy converter. Confirmed by a staff of the manufacturer company. At present, the broken equipment already sold, money taken, new equipment will arrive soon. Everyone's happy now. FYI, I'm not a good badminton player, but I'm a good student. Anyway, we are completely OOT. Let's just move forward, respected Mr. Cooler? This is MAS XD thread, not an engineer forum.
