sorry this is a noob question i noticed alot of ppl prefer yonex hiqua flying clamps, while most machines come with those fixed clamps at the bottom facing top, appreciate if someone will clarify this for me.
it's a matter of preference and speed. Some can do it faster with fixed, others can do it faster flying.
Using two fixed clamps are always better than using 2 flying clamps, because flying clamps do not clamp well and they lose tension unless you use them in a "twin-pairs" clamping pattern on three strings.
It is simple. You use a pair of flying clamps in an array place of one fixed clamp. The first of the two flying clamps clamps the two strings, one of which is the one you have just pulled and tensioned. The second flying clamp is then clamped next to the first flying clamp but this time clamped on to two strings, one of which is shared/clamped with the first clamp and the other string on the third string. Please note the two flying clamps are in a kind of staggered array, like clamp 1 on string 1 and 2, and clamp 2 on string 2 and 3, string 2 being the string where both clamps are clamped on to.
Yep, nicely described as usual.. but if ya get confused don't worry, once you attempt to use 'twin pairs' according to taneepak, it will make sense!
taneepak: Would the "twin-pairs" clamping pattern on three strings on par with swivel fixed clamps for retaining tension ? or the fixed clamps still the best.
It all depends on the quality of the swivel fixed clamp and also the flying clamps. But you will need 4 flying clamps vs only 2 fixed clamps, at least for the mains.
Based on frequency usage, swivel clamps tightness can be adjusted via tiny hex screw, while fly clamps has to be changed due to soften coil springs. Just wanna look at fly clamps method could able "overtake" fixed clamps a tad better......or fixed clamps still rule.
