If a well-deserved break after the Olympics is a sign of retirement, then Lin Dan too has retired :)

At the Olympics, Lee Hyun-Il showed he has a lot of badminton left in him!

u might have forgotten, I think LHI had quit the national team but he was encouraged back to the team just to fight for korea's glory at the 08 OG. (don't want to waste li mao's salary u know;))

Yeah. He said he had no more regret left for it. But I believe we can see him later as a coach. :)

I guess that's another great badminton player to add to the retired list.

I thought that we'll be able to see him in action for another year after the great performance at the Beijing Olympics. He nearly upset LCW, and gave CJ a run for the money in the Bronze match. The only thing is that luck wasn't on his side during the Olympics.

Well, I guess PSH is there to take over what LHI left.

I don't know if luck ran out on him in the Olympics. In his losses he just looked tired. That could happen to anyone.

But what a wonderfully fit, consistent athlete overall. He moves so smoothly and remains unperturbable throughout a match. He ought to make a wonderful coach/mentor.

Lee Hyun Il had displayed impressive performance in this year including Beijing OG, unfortunately he had decided for retirement. So KOR MS will depend on Park Sung Hwan and Hong Ji Hoon in future.

ah, that is a shame indeed.
he is by far one of the better players on the world tour, one of only a handful that can cause the chinese players a headache or two.
he's performed really well since returning, and i wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

imo, thats not a shame at all to him..
maybe he had some personal reason(to further his studies..etc) to retired from that sport..
anyway, thats his final decision and we have to respect his decision though:)
if 1 day he change his mind to play international badminton again, im sure all of us will be glad and definately will welcome him back again:)

Korea's system is always focusing on the Olympic Games with limited number of elite players. So, after that, there usually happens the change of generation and they quit to participate in the international games, even though they still play in the national torneys sometimes serving as coaches.
In a sense it's understandable if we recognize that how hard and painfully they had to train for the ultimate goal from when they were just child.

I'm not really sure what your point is but military ages are a moot point in Lee's case. He won gold in the men's team event at the 2002 Asian Games so he doesn't have to do the full 26 months. He did do a little mini-training session back in 2004 or so, though.
